Great win obviously, Travis was awesome, defense was awesome in the second half, but we have some major issues to fix. We've been very lucky to win these past 2 games. These are the biggest issues I see.
1. Communication on defense
The coverage in the first half was awful, more of the regular miscommunications and busts. Any sort of weird formation or pre-snap motion seems to really screw us up. Communication needs to be a focus during the bye week.
2. Running game
We absolutely have to fix this running game. The offensive line hasn't been great, but neither have the running backs. Some of these transfer lineman are just not that good. Jeremiah Byers was actually benched late in the game. The running backs haven't been good either. There have been many plays where the line blocks well enough and the backs just do not hit the hole. Benson and Toafili have not looked well-coached at all.
3. Play-calling
Norvell's playcalling was absolutely AWFUL today. I've never seen Norvell call such a shitty game. He completely abandoned the running game and we threw WAY too many jump balls. There was no creativity or variety to our offense today. Norvell HAS to be better going forward. This is squarely on him. We need to be more committed to the run game, and we need to get the slot recievers and tight ends more involved. We can't just throw jump balls down the sidelines all day long. Yes it sometimes works, like on that overtime touchdown, but it also killed many drives.
