Sorry I haven't done one of these in awhile. Been busy, but I'll try to make up for the week I've missed and at least get 2 in tonight.
On this date in 1957, an undefeated Abilene Christian rolled into Tallahassee to face a 1-3 FSU team.
After only playing at HB the week before, the Noles were led by Bobby Renn at QB. He didn't have a great passing, but ran for a record 150 yards including a 52-yard TD, leading the Noles to a 21-0 halftime lead. Renn also handled punting and punt return duties; nailing a 52 yard punt.
Abilene left with a 34-7 loss in front of a crowd of 15,300.
Bobby Renn was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1984.
Bobby Renn became one of the most complete football players ever to wear the garnet and gold from 1956-58. By the time his career was over, Renn held FSU career marks in points scored, touchdowns scored, rushing yardage and punting. He not only ran and punted, he was also a brilliant defensive back, a fine pass receiver, and filled in at quarterback in 1957. He gained 150 yards rushing in one game and gained 1,468 yards rushing in his career. He remains one of the most powerful and accurate punters in FSU annals. Renn is perhaps best remembered for returning the opening kickoff in the FSU-Florida series 75 yards to the Gator 15, setting up a quick Seminole TD. He was co-captain of that fine 1958 squad. Bobby Renn's great versatility as a Seminole football player well merits his selection to the athletic hall of fame.
Even after all these decades, Renn is still in the record book 14 times for FSU.
