The game following Miami next week for the Noles will be against the Louisville Cardinals in the 16th meeting between the two teams.
FSU currently holds an all-time record of 13-2 against the Cardinals with their only losses coming in the 2002 Thursday night downpour on the road and the very first meeting between the schools in 1952, a year after FSU first began offering scholarships and 40 years after Louisville began competing.
The two teams played regularly from the 70's to early 90's as independents. Since then, they've taken different paths joining conferences and have come back to playing each other again regularly as members of the same ACC division.
On this day in FSU history, Bobby Bowden faced off against the Cardinals for the first time as the head coach of the Seminoles.
It was a near flawless effort by the FSU defense, shutting out Louisville on the road in the 27-0 victory. Of those 27 points, the defense was responsible for 11 of them, four from 2 safeties and Bobby Butler recovered a blocked punt in the endzone for a score. The first offensive score was setup by a Bobby Butler interception. Keith Jones also recorded an interception in the game.
Bobby Bulter would go on to be a 1st round pick to the Atlanta Falcons where he would spend his entire 12 year career and was inducted into the FSU HOF in 1987.

Louisville's offensive statistics tell the story of the domination by the defense. The Cardinals netted only 7 yards in 34 rushing attempts and picked up another 86 yards passing to finish the game with 92 yards total offense. The figure becomes even more stunning when one realizes that 47 passing yards came on a single pass play with less than 8 minutes remaining in the game.
The shutout victory was the 1st of 3 in shutouts in a row against the Cardinals, the first of 4 by Bobby Bowden led teams and one of the 5 shutouts in the all-time series.
The 27-0 win was the 5th of the 1979 season for the Noles. The 1979 season was the first undefeated regular season in the Bobby Bowden era and first undefeated season as a major college. Wins that year came over Southern Miss, ASU, Miami, VT, Louisville, Mississippi St, LSU, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Memphis St and Florida. Just imagine for a moment going undefeated with that schedule now.
Unfortunately, the championship hopes for the Noles that season were cut short by Heisman winner Billy Sims and the Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl to give FSU their only loss of the year.
Also on this date, Xavier Lee made his first start of the 2007 season against the NC State Wolfpack.
Lee would run for the first TD of the game and pass for over 250 yards and add a passing TD early in the 4th quarter for 40 yards to Greg Carr to help put the game out of reach. Michael Ray Garvin had a 43-yard interception return for a TD to snap the halftime tie.
The 27-10 win snapped a string of 8 straight losses to Atlantic Division rivals to give Bobby Bowden his 370th win (most in football). It was FSU assistant coach Chuck Amato's first time facing the team he was the former head coach of.
