Did you know ...
44 scholarship players on our roster have started a college football game. 23 of those players have started 10+ games. 8 have started 20+ games.
Robert Cooper and Pokey Wilson have the most starts of anyone on our roster? Each has 28 starts. Pokey has played in 39 games, where as Cooper's played in 44 games. Cooper's 44 games played is 3rd on the team to Camren McDonald and ........ Leonard Warner. Each has played in 45 games, and coincidentally, each has started 20 games in their respective careers.
Other notes:
QB: Jordan Travis only has 13 starts at QB (14 total with the other being at WR). Tate has 1 start.
RB: Ja'Khi Douglas and Toafili have the most starts of any "Running Back" on the roster (each has 4 -- 3 at RB, 1 at WR; DJ has 3 starts & Ward has never started a game)
WR: As noted, Pokey has 28 starts in 39 games. Wright started 16 out of 33 games at WVU. Mycah started 12 out of 22 games at Oregon. Helton & Malik each have 9 starts (Helton in 36 games, Malik in 12)
TE. Camm is the only scholarship TE with a start. Preston Daniel has started 2 games. Wyatt has seen action in 22 games.
OL. 5 guys have started more than 10 games: Washington (20); R. Scott (18); Smith (17); Lyles (16 - some of which were at DT); Gibbons (12). That's 83 games. The rest of the OL combined has played in 35 games, including Bless Harris's time at Lamar.
DE. Warner has 20 starts, 4 of which were at Edge (including the first 3 games of 2019). I assume Verse started every game at Albany, but couldn't confirm - he's played in 15 games. No other player has a start at DE. McClendon has played in 25 games without a start (most on the team)
DT. 28 starts in 44 games for Robert Cooper. 24 starts in 34 games for Lovett. 7 starts in 26 games for Briggs. Great core there.
LB. 4 guys with 10+ starts. Amari has the most starts (17 in 38 games); Bethune has 16 in 35 games. DeLoach 12 in 29 games, Lundy 11 in 19 games.
DB. Jammie is our most experienced with 24 starts in 34 games. Would be more if it weren't for targeting calls. Interestingly, McClellion has the next most starts - 20 in 35 games played. Akeem has 18 starts in 30 games played, and Jarvis with 16 starts in 24 games.
Biggest surprise for me: Travis Jay has only started 3 games.
Here's the total breakdown. Sorted by Career Games Started and secondarily by Career Games played.
