The issue with gaming is you can have adults (technically anyone over 18) playing on-line with small kids. In this case a 45 year olds main rival is 11 years old? Yeesh.

I've played Fortnite with my son and it is fun, it is addicting for sure. I know how to draw the line on me playing and my son as well (although the later is a challenge). But lets face it I bet there are a lot of creeps out there, anyone think this (older guys playing against kids) could have some bad consequences one day?

I probably can’t complain. I still get irritated losing to these 12 yos online who have nothing better to do than play video games 24/7 while I have to work occasionally.

I imagine this picture is what it was like for the 45 year old to go outside. Sadly, this will probably be the case for future generations as well.

If you're in your mid-20s or older and you're legitimately unable to control your temper when playing video games, it's prob time to put down the controller and seek counselling. Seriously.

Been saying this on the TC a lot lately and it bears repeating here, "folks, it's just a game."

They had a shooting at a video game contest in Jax not too long ago. This s-- does not surprise me. The full time gaming industry/hobby does not always attract the most mentally healthiest of people.

This is why online games suck. You always end up playing with some 12 year old who thinks it's funny to Leroy Jenkins.
I remember when Red Dead Redemption came out and their online went live. They had a lot of different type of online game play but some of it was cooperative challenges. There were several of us who had spent 30 minutes or so working on one and some douche-nozzle walks up behind us and shoots us scrapping the whole thing. Then he whines when we camp on his corpse for the next 40 minutes. "Don't you guys have anything better to do?!"

I'm not sure what much of this means but sounds like a lot of people who are just taking out life's frustrations on others.

@Fijimn is right though, the gamer community certainly has a subset of loners. Loners playing games that create realistic virtual worlds and depict graphic violence isn't really the best combination. The e-sports world might want to really start spending some time and money on mental health outreach and awareness.

I am appalled that a 45 year old man would threaten to shoot an 11 year old over a video game. C'mon man ... you are much bigger than him, you could just kick his ass straight up.

I had an older guy tell me about his experience playing some shooter pvp online game a few years back. This guys was from Alabama with a very southern accent like in the movie O'Brother Where Art Thou. So he starts playing this game and soon after gets killed by a spawn area and some kid/adult starts killing him as he re-spawns, corpse camping as you know. After a long time he asks this person to please move on and the kid/adult sends him a message of "you suck, why don't you just quit noob". The Bama guy says it made him so mad he decided to take the kid/adults advice and do just that, he logged off and deleted the game. This guy tells the story so well with his accent you can not help but laugh out loud.

I can see where pvp games can draw out the worst in everyone. Much like posting on the TC.

For a second I thought this story was going to end real badly.
Glad the guy did the mature thing, which is to stop playing bang bang games with internet trolls / wannabe cyberbullies. Dude should be on a PSA.

It's a matter of time investment. As an adult with a job/family you don't have the time necessary to acquire the level-up/gear/items to compete with the teens/20-somethings that spend 10 hours a day playing. Which means that when you do try to play it's just not fun the way most of the games are set up as overpowered adolescent males crap all over game play for the lolz. So, I play RPGs when I get some free time after the kids and wife fall asleep. Or I read a book.

I know I can look this up but just getting some thoughts here, is there any benefit to playing video games? I know this can be debated but I seem to recall that there is some (besides the proverbial hand/eye coordination).

Keeps you from being a hoodlum on the street or something.

some people just cannot take losing and are absolute maniacs when it happens. Ridiculous behavior.

Glad this site allows one to remain anonymous.
