49'er Great Dwight Clark Dead at 61

Was sad to see that news this morning; he was a great player & part of some great teams, including being half of one of the top plays in NFL history).
Didn't know he was suffering from ALS. What a horrible way to go that must be.

My brother in law died from ALS several years ago. I can be a mean and nasty person but I would never wish that disease on anyone. It is horrific to watch someone die from ALS. Wingo and Golic spent about 15 minutes talking about it today and hopefully this gets ALS some attention again. The ice bucket challenge was going on around the time my BIL died and it raised a fortune; as well as allowed them to do some research that made a difference.
My BIL dying from this did some good and bad things things for our family though. Made us appreciate each other more and Steve Gleason took my BIL to the Super Bowl when it was in Indy.
They are finding some connections to contact sports and CTE to ALS; as well as a few other things. Sadly ALS doesn't get the attention a lot of other diseases do.

One of our great QB's from the 70's was a teammate of Dwight's back in the day and told us a story about what a ladies man and a "babe magnet" he was. Not surprising, given his looks. RIP

His hands were certainly football magnets.

Wingo and Golic talked about how he got the NFL. SF called to talk to the Clemson QB and he was his roomate. Clark answered the phone and talked to the SF guy and was like you should draft me I can catch anything. Well SF drafted him in the 10th round and the rest is history.
Crazy that a 6th round QB and a 10th round TE draft choice did what they did.
