Twenty years ago today in 1995 during Bobby Bowden's 20th season as the head coach for the Seminoles, FSU beat the University of Central Florida 46-14 in Tallahassee in what has still been the only time in program history the teams have faced off. FSU matched their 2nd half box score with the 1st, scoring 16 points in the 1st & 3rd quarters thanks to safeties in both quarters and 7 points in the 2nd & 4th.
It marked the only time in his career, Pooh Bear Williams would score a TD both by ground and air in his highest scoring season of his career, finding the endzone 13 times. He only ran for 11 yards on 7 carries, but found the endzone twice from 3 yards out and added anther 16 yard TD catch from Danny Kanell, one of two TD throws from Kanell that day.
Warrick Dunn rushed for an even 100 yards on 17 carries and ran for a TD. This game marked the 4th 100-yard game in a row by Dunn which ended up being a record setting 6 consecutive games. For anyone keeping track of Dalvin Cook's recent games may have noticed he was one 100-yard game away from tying that 6 game record before coming up short against BC. This game 20 years ago against UCF was the part of that Dunn streak.
Another RB in the game some may remember was former Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year, Marquette Smith. Smith ran the ball in 8 games during our 1993 national championship campaign (Marquette Smith at FSU video), but on this day, after transferring to UCF he actually rushed for over 120 yards and scored 2 TD's against his former team.
