You probably know that Cook averages 8.7 yards per carry and Fournette 8.0. But I think it's revealing to look at how each team has run the ball beyond those guys.
Take away Fournette (8.0), and LSU still averages 6.1 yards per carry, a drop of only 1.9. In fact LSU's 2nd leading rusher averages more yards per carry than Fournette (8.6 to 8.0).
Take away Cook (8.7), and FSU averages a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. That's a drop of a whopping 6.5 yards per rush. This could be close to an NCAA record for disparity. Simply put, our running game is not good after Cook.
I do love Fournette, and I think he has incredible strength and ability to shake off tacklers. But is it possible that LSU's OL is just really good? We saw this same thing last year with UGA. Todd Gurley was gonna win the Heisman, and then !@#$ he's lost for the rest of the season. No big deal, they plug in someone else (Chubb) who does just as well. Does anything really believe we wouldn't miss a beat if we had to replace Cook this year? This to me is why I think he's the best player in the country.
