So, like everyone else here, I've been thinking about this game a lot, and like everyone else can't wait for kickoff.
I've gone back and forth on this one a good bit. I don't know who's going to win but here are a few things that come to mind as we get ready to play.
Jimbo will have this team ready. He knows this is an enormous game and he'll have this team ready to go and focused. Outside of the early issues from last year, L'vill in particular, he's done a fantastic job of stepping up to the level of competition. Last year we opened with Ol' Miss, and despite some sloppiness won that game against what many thought was a powerhouse SEC team. Then we were ready for everything Clemson had and really should have won that game (thanks ACC refs for screwing us again!). Despite our issues we were ready and took everything they had and were in a position to win. Same goes for Michigan. We were ready, and the game really wasn't as close as the final score, and we still beat a good team. Jimbo had them ready. And he'll have them ready for Saturday night.
Jimbo is usually pretty straightforward about what he thinks, and it seems from the tone of his discussions and practice reports that he's fairly excited about what he's got. And when he's excited, it's for good reason - he knows he's got something he can win with. His poker face has never been very good when it comes to this, at least in my opinion. He puts out there what he really thinks every year, and this year he seems excited, which is quite different than previous years.
We didn't hear about toughness from Jimbo, during camp, at least not that I recall, and in my opinion, that's a good thing.
We've got talent everywhere, and we'll match up well. I'll put our defense up there with any other defense in the country. I think we turned a corner last year, and things will be much better on Saturday, and all year long this year. If not, Kelly has to go sooner rather than later. Don't think that will be the case though. They remember getting embarrassed last year, and I'd be surprised to see them get humiliated like that again. They'll be ready.
It would take deliberate effort for our OL to be worse than it was last year, and I think they're going to surprise us. Even as bad as it was we still managed to win a lot of games last year. Just a marginal improvement will result in a much better performance, and I think we'll see that this weekend.
Francois is the real deal, and he'll be ready. I believe we'll see him take the next step and the new-ish crop of receivers will make plays.
I like our chances in this one. It will be an exciting ride, no doubt.
