The Navigate Media Rights numbers have startled some of the college football heavyweights, which in some respects, was its intended purpose. USC and the B1G have been talking. The media companies are drooling over the possibility of being able to market advertising across an expanded B1G footprint that includes the West Coast.

USC's brand is being damaged by remaining solely in a West Coast league, which has seen eroding interest. There is very little value in PAC 12 games right now because they have little meaning to the rest of the country. Few viewers east of the Mississippi stay up late to watch the West coast games because they are so disconnected with the rest of the country and don't impact their own conference standings. That changes the minute USC joins the B1G. It is not yet clear who or how many others USC would want to go with them.

As I have said all along, this upcoming B1G media deal is much bigger than a simple renewal, with payouts approaching $100M per year. The Big 12 has been gutted, next up could be the PAC 12.

I don't think it's a coincidence the PAC 12 is walking away from its corporate headquarters and sending everyone to work from home. Might be a good idea for the ACC too...
