Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher spoke for about 10 minutes Wednesday during his segment of the weekly ACC Teleconference. Fisher spoke on a number of topics ranging from the Seminoles' upcoming game against Miami, the progress of graduate transfer quarterback Everett Golson, the importance of fifth-year seniors and freshman defensive back Derwin James.

Here are the highlights:

>Fisher said he's been pleased with what he's seen from Golson to this point. The Seminoles are one of six teams to not throw an interception this season. He continued by saying the key to any quarterback is adjusting the offense to his strengths and weaknesses.

>The discussion shifted to FSU's fifth-year seniors on defense. Of all the questions Fisher was asked, he went into great detail with this answer. He likened it to the "old days" when fifth-year seniors were prevalent compared the current atmosphere when players are likely to leave once it is possible. Fisher said having fifth-year seniors provides a testament to younger players. Those older players can be models for younger players who might feel impatient. He said, "They've set examples for other guys...it's a great group of guys." His strongest statement may have been, "It's not all peaches and cream...you have to work for things. There is adversity."

>A future FSU opponent, Louisville, played three true freshmen last weekend. Fisher was asked if he ever had to do anything quite like that. He recalled playing true freshmen at LSU and Auburn. Louisville started a true freshman quarterback, prompting Fisher to say quarterback and offensive line are the hardest positions to play for a true first-year player. He said the physical and mental demands can often be too heavy a burden.

>Fisher was also complimentary about Miami's personnel. He said the Hurricanes were good on defense, he likes their defensive line and feels their defensive backs do a good job. He expressed how the offense has "two good running backs" and how quarterback Brad Kaaya is "a heck of a player."

>His final discussion point centered on freshman defensive back Derwin James. Fisher said he and the staff have felt comfortable with James for a while. Some of it stems from what's seen in practice. The rest of it comes from what James has done in game situations.
