Was down close to school for a late lunch and left just minutes before the shooting happened. By the time I was getting off the Sawgrass onto the T-pike north the swarm of fire rescue and police was underway. Even saw BSO cars heading south from Palm Beach County (off-shift I suppose)....Damn shame.

Good friend, in my wedding and a guy I have known for 30 years is Broward country swat guy. Texted to make sure he was ok and he said it is bad; lots of dead kids and they were still clearing rooms as of 1700. Man this doesn't sound good at all.

This hits close to home. I grew up in the area. Went to Coral Springs Middle and High School. Stoneman Douglas opened the year after I graduated high school in '90. I don't keep up with people down there, but I wouldn't be surprised if I knew a parent of someone impacted.

No, judging by your statement above, you just think you do. Sad you feel the need to share your “thoughts” on such a tragic day.

I am a firearms instructor at the best school in the country, Front Sight.

Nothing deters these mentally ill cowards except knowing there will be armed resistance.

At their core, these people are cowards.

Those are the facts.

Horrible day Sir. I grew up less that 5 minutes from Douglas. There are kids from my old neighborhood who most likely won't make it home tonight. Very difficult to wrap your head around.

Hate it for everyone affected, directly or indirectly. Total insanity that is incomprehensible to me.

BTW, I did not know it when I was googling how to do it myself but apparently that is precisely what our cowardly (surrendered to cops) man of the hour did. Maybe not the exact same AR-15 clone and exact same fully auto kit but apparently he did something quite similar per these early reports.

Class of ‘83. Coral Springs High, Middle & Elementary. Like you, I don’t keep up but I saw as story with a quote from a parent and it was someone I grew up with.

Not to be too much of a dick, but all the "airplay" and "event deconstruction" that makes it way onto TV and online means we are training the next generation of terrorists in how to be more efficient killers. I doubt there is anything about Columbine that hasn't been analyzed at the molecular level and packaged for the masses; Sandy Hook would not lag that far behind. The media had insane detail about the Mandalay Bay shootings airing for the home audience in less than a week. Pulse...Boston Marathon, etc. etc. Gone are the "Virginia Tech shooter" day where the post-event inquiry of Cho was basically superficial. And that was only 10 years ago.

Expect these events to get worse over time.

:(
