Delta State University confirmed in a tweet that one person is dead in a shooting on campus, which remains under lockdown.

Students and faculty at the Cleveland, Mississippi campus are being advised to stay away from windows.

Delta State University police could not confirm an active shooter to the Clarion-Ledger. Cleveland police, Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Bolivar County Sheriff's Dept. are assisting in the investigation, according to Delta State.

Delta State has about 4,000 students.

Cleveland is a city of just over 12,000 people. It's located 38 miles northeast of Greenville.

I'm an adjunct professor and teaching 2 classes this semester.........luckily they are online.
 
My SIL went there and still has some friends in the area, IIRC. Just sent her this.

Updates on Delta State Active Shooter Alert
All faculty, staff and students who have been cleared from academic buildings are being moved to Sillers Coliseum. Students currently in residence halls should remain there. Campus administrators are working to get food, water and counselors to the Coliseum. Police are working to clear all campus buildings, and students, faculty and staff should stay where they are until they are escorted out.

All official information is being released from the law enforcement command center every hour. The command center is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Highway 8.

All classes have been cancelled for the remainder of the day and night, along with plans to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the campus set for Tuesday.

Chief Buster Bingham, Cleveland Police Department, DSU police were contacted this morning about a shooting in Jobe Hall. The victim has been identified as Professor Ethan Schmidt, and a suspect is on the large. The suspect is not being named at this time.

University Relations Vice President Michelle Roberts said it is a tragic situation and the entire campus sends its heartfelt thoughts and sympathy to Professor Schmidt's family.
 
People are crazy. I finally, after 4 years, bought real bullets for my 380 and carry it often. This past weekend, I was walking at night to my car alone and for the first time ever, had my hand in my purse, on my gun. It saddens me that stuff like this happens and I feel the need to protect myself.

It should be noted that the US murders are at their lowest since 1968. And adjusted for population, at their lowest since 1962.

That said, the rise in lone wolf/theater/school shootings is alarming and something must be done to keep guns out of the hands of these wack jobs.

Any updates on this? Have they caught this a-hole yet?
 
This is some love triangle gone wrong, it seems. Still crazy, of course, but not the completely random/arbitrary insanity we have recently seen in other places. Be careful who you sleep with.

Yep. Professor dead, domestic partner dead, shooter dead.
