Anyone on here ever book a place through Airbnb? Were you happy with your rental & stay?

I've used AirBnB twice and VRBO about a half a dozen times. Air was easy both times, I did it once for he national championship in Jan14, and once in New Orleans last NYE. Simple exchanges both times.

I just did VRBO last weekend in Salida Colorado for a group of 12 guys, we had a blast. I'll be doing it again on a 14 bedroom house in Breckenridge for my 40th birthday in January.

If you are going with a group, have everyone pay first, I'm chasing 4 guys around for payment for last weekend, it's a pain in the ass.

I know there's a guy in NYC that can no longer rent an apartment anywhere in the city because he was "blacklisted" by property owners after renting his place out through airbnb.

"Last March, a man named Ari Teman rented out his Chelsea apartment on Airbnb to another man (ostensibly) named David, who said that he was in town for a wedding, but was actually planning on throwing an "XXX Freak Fest," a.k.a. a "BBW Panty Raid Party," a.k.a. a big orgy that destroyed the apartment."

Was it "Shoot, I don't have my wallet with me" or the "Oh, crap, man...sorry, I kept meaning to give you the money last weekend. OK if I give to you next time I see you?"

We rent our family place on Sugarloaf Key using VRBO - works fine. I have a friend who rents out his place in downtown St. Pete using Air BnB and loves it.

To completely fulfil your fantasy of being raped and then horrifically murdered, make sure you take Uber to your AirBnB.

Are you saying that with VRBO the fantasy would be left unfulfilled?
Your sage technology advice is riveting, do you have a blog I can follow?

No tech blog although I should set up a 1 pager that basically says "Don't trust unregulated service companies especially those like Uber that have a wing of online attackers to go after reporters who publish unflattering things...like statistics". On the one hand you might get a nice stay in a Grandma's Dayroom or a cheap ride in a construction workers second car on his day off...but on the other you might get bedbugs and pubic lice or have your car basically explode. And on the third hand...you will be rape murdered.

Sorry, I'm a stickler for details, in the rape murder you mention, is it in that order or vice versa? Askingforafriend.

Anyway, I generally like rolling the dice, so far I'm on roll ~200 w/ Uber and I've yet to successfully experience a car explosion or rape-murder / murder-rape / rape-murder-rape (or really any scenario with either of those activities). There's always tonight though?

Just remember, for everyone like you who's had nothing but good experiences, there's some other poor schmuck out there that's, like, 0 for 50.

I usually find my rides and lodging on Craigslist.

I've used Airbnb several times and will continue to do so. Great service, and so far I haven't had any issues with the places I have booked.

I looked at AirBnB when considering places to stay at the beach this summer, but most of the places looked like older homes in regular neighborhoods away from the water - nothing special. We booked a sweet condo directly on a private beach on VRBO.
