Wife and I are going to PWT-it down at the Nugget. Had a question about Lotus of Siam. Is it as legit as all the reviews and Bourdain's show said it was?

Is it the best Thai place on the planet per Bourdain? No, that was the booze talking. Is it very, very, very good...yes.

I'll be going to Raku in about three weeks so I'll see if it tops Lotus as best Asian in LV. If you're going after me, I'll post a little report on here. If you're going before me...I'd suggest trying Raku first. Raku is where all of the celebrity and no celebrity chefs go after hours (it's open from 6pm-2am and the celebrity chefs are there after about midnight). It's supposed to be amazing Japanese (robata grill/izakaya style not sushi) and I'm looking forward to trying it. Out of all of the great/famous/infamous restaurants I'll be going to on my upcoming trip (Miss Myra's in Birmingham, Rendezvous and Dwyers in Memphis, McClards in Hot Springs, Cattleman's in OKC, Big Texan in Amarillo, Maria's in Santa Fe, El Pinto in Albuquerque, Tia Sophia's for breakfast in Santa Fe, the green Chili burgers at Second Street Brewery in Santa Fe and Blake's Lotaburger probably around Alamagordo, the chicken fried elk and bacon wrapped bison at Shiloh Steakhouse in Cortez, Colorado, the rattlesnake cakes at Diablo Cafe in Torrey Utah, the Moab Brewery in Moab, Utah, Hubert Keller's Burger Bar in Vegas (a return trip, it was awesome), the Bacchanal Buffet at Ceasar's Palace in Buffet, O Face Donuts in Vegas, Wing Lei in Vegas a (former I believe despite the website) Michelin starred restaurant, and Beijing Noodle #9 in Vegas....I'm MOST looking forward to Raku. Of all the amazing restaurants I'll be going to this trip, I bet Raku wins by a mile.

Cool, thanks Tribe. Wife got an email from the Nugget offering suites for 130 for around her birthday and bonus time for us. So, couldn't pass it up.

If you go to Lotus, a lot of the reviews say the same thing as Bourdain....stick to the northern specialties on the back of the menu as the other regional dishes are not as good. I can't comment because I did stick to the northern specialties as I'd read that before going. But that seems to be good advice.

I wish I had a deal going on my upcoming trip to Vegas, instead for some reason everything inside the city limits is triple the normal price. Luxor where you can normally pyramid rooms for $50 is suddenly $190 pretax and fees that Saturday. So instead of staying on the Strip, I booked the Silverton this trip. Hopefully it's not too awful. I just couldn't rationalise paying $200 and more for the cheap Strip hotels like Luxor and $500-600 for the better ones like Mandalay Bay and Bellagio. I'm still way overpaying for the Silverton (I think $120 or so) but at least I'm just being slightly taken rather than raped over the coals.

Jesus, when are you going? Mayweather weekend?

No like two weeks before that. I tried looking around to see what was going on that week and found nothing. Technically Seinfeld is doing his comeback that week but I cant imagine it would cause the entire city of Vegas to triple in price. I guess there must be some giant mega conference that is horribly boring going on that weekend.

Those big conferences bring out the best looking hookers though.

Tribe, you going during the music festival? We are going early May and found out that its the first weekend of the Rock in Rio weekends. Buddy hooking me up with a room at Ceasers, he is VP there, but couldn't get me a suite in Nobu because of that festival. Also surprised that you are not hitting up Robuchon. Every major chef goes crazy about that place. We doing it our first full night out there. Awesome menu, but full one is crazy pricy.

Lotus is good, but there are other Thai places that where I have eaten better food. Raku is one of my favorite places!! I have a buddy who lives in Vegas, and when we go, I try to make a night to at least go to a local restaurant in Vegas while we are there (off the strip). When I was there last month we went to a Thai place called Chada which was awesome. Lotus is good, but I like other places better.

Stayed at Cosmo.
Ate at Raku (great; kobe was awesome), (cosmo) Blue Ribbon Sushi (also great), (cosmo) Jaleo (good lunch there), (cosmo) Wicked Spoon (breakfast buffet, nice), (cosmo) estiatorio milos (greek, good). There's also a french restaurant at the Cosmo, but I can't remember what it was called anyway, it has a great bar (really interesting drink combinations; had an absinthe creation of the bartender that was really quite excellent).
Sounds fancy. We'll be drinking two dollar tall boys while zip lining across Fremont St. Then getting our cheap buzz on at Le Bayou, the local favorite slots bar where, if you throw a 10 spot at the methhead waitress, you'll be double fisting free double vodka and sodas all night.

I've never been off the strip but that right there sounds pretty tempting.

La Bayou
This might just be Vegas's best-kept secret for drinkers. I'm hesitant to share it, but here goes. There is a very small casino on Fremont Street called called La Bayou. It's nothing more than slot machines with a frozen drinks bar in the back. The bathroom stinks, but the people that work there are awesome. The patron-to-waitress ratio is unmatched. Find a comfortable stool and pump some nickels into a slot machine. In no time, someone will ask you if you want a drink. The drinks will keep coming faster than you can drink them. This is not an exaggeration. I have tested it on many occasions, and I stumble out of that place every time.

La Bayou is the reason I now have this one:

Get Your Cheap Drink On

I've heard of cars as jackpots but you won a toddler playing slots? Pretty good way for those meth head waitresses to get rid of their unwanted offspring.

No we're going in the middle of April. As far as I can tell there's nothing going on to explain the high prices.
