Any good deals in the 80-100 in tv range?

It may be premature, I know there’s some good deals the week before the SuperBowl so I might hold off until then.

Here's an 82" Samsung 4k tv for $3,300. That's a pretty good deal.

For some reason your media doesn't show up in your post, but I can see the media when I quote you.

Newegg has a GREAT deal

Those are both in the range of what I was looking for. I definitely want 4K LED at a min if not some ultrahigh level QLED tv. I do NOT want curved or 3d, I have never liked either of those options.

Oh and I really love the 55” Roku tv I have in our master bedroom but I don’t think they have much larger than that, they stay in the small and midsize tv range.

I don’t think you’ll find ‘good deals’ in that size. Too close to the edge. Looks like 60” and less is around $10/in. Quite a premium to get those largest sizes at this stage.

To your point about the SB, what about looking for open box deals the week after?

Had a buddy years ago who would get a call from the Sam’s electronic dept anytime they had a return. He could get something like 50% off in exchange for the hassle of resolving the warranty issue himself.

There’s definitely better deals on 75” and below, as I’ve seen 75” TVs from legitimate sites for only a little over a grand. And I might be forced into one that size, the entertainment center I really like for our furniture only accommodates a 70” tv mounted on its panel (but could probably do up to 100 on the little stands). So if I dropped under 80, I’d probably just bite the bullet and drop all the way down to 70 so it can be mounted on the panel as designed.

But you’re right about the open box especially if I don’t see a quality sale between now and the SB.

At that size, have you looked at getting an HD projector and a screen for the wall?

Really have to take natural room lighting into account with these. We have fake dormers that are actually skylights on the west side of our living room, the east side is windows and French glass doors to the park that I don't want to cover. Just wouldn't work. Now if I close in the garage with just one window, most likely I'll use a projector just to save space.
Hadn't seen prices on 4K iterations, how much do those run?

Honestly I don't know much about them. I've got a buddy that has one, and a brother that has one - his is in a basement, so that aligns with what you're saying about the lighting. I guess if you put it in a main room you'd have to install blackout curtains to be able to see anything. Not sure either of them have one that's 4k.

A quick look on Amazon has one for $1500 (Vivitek?), one for around $1,900 (Optoma), and one for $8k (Sony). I'm sure there are a lot of specs that differentiate "good, better, and best" (lumens and such), but I don't know them.

Are you looking for your facility or new house?

My house. We’ve got three 70in and one 60 in, in the facility.

At the house we have a “problem” in that there’s lots of windows in the main living room which is NOT want you want for quality tv viewing. At the PC facility, three of the TVs are in the entertainment room which is at the Center of the building so no windows to trigger light and the smaller one is in the small reception area where it will get light but I don’t care much as it’s not patients who would be waiting but vendors and salespeople.

This is the living room as it was arranged before.

I’ll have a similar layout although I’m going with two aqua leather couches rather than the sectional.

master:ASHY3178.jpg

The entertainment center I like to go with the useless fireplace and the rest of the color scheme is this one which you can have 70 inch mounted as designed or set a larger tv (likely up to about 100” as that’s measured on the diagonal) on the top surface with the little standing legs.

master:MANH035.jpg

To block out the windows, we’re going to replace the boring normal white plastic shades with these in “Eggnog” color (basically a beige)

https://m.jcpenney.com/p/jcpenney-h...less-cellular-shade/1d6df71?pTmplType=regular

And then get some turquoise or aqua blackout curtains to draw over them so that it kind of looks like this but with the more expensive cell shades rather than bamboo as it blocks more light. That way it can be open with lots of natural light when we’re not watching tv but can make it nearly pitch black when we are.

Why wouldn't you?

Exactly. The only time I found “bigger is better” to be a mistake is about 7-10 years ago when I bought a laptop and went gaga over some giant 25-27 inch Dell laptop that was top of the line at its point in history....and then found I couldn’t use it on a plane as it was too big when unfolded. I still have it to this day as I haven’t gotten around to taking some docs off of it, but in the three laptops I’ve gotten since then each one is much smaller in the 13-14 inch range.

But TVs? Give me the biggest you got (within reason, I’m not dropping a decent car (32k) on a 102 inch Sony).

The issue at that size is that the picture quality you give up going over 65 is an issue, in terms of the cost/quality ratio. While you can get a pretty excellent 65" for $2K, what you're going to get for $3-4k at 75"+ is going to be a worse TV.

I'd probably go Vizio P-Series for around $2500 or the Sony 75X940E for about $4000 in the 75". Those are way better TVs than the Samsung and Vizio E-series that were linked, if you're looking at picture quality.

If I absolutely had go over 75" I think I'd be looking at a projector, even with lighting issues, it would likely be much better for evening viewing.

It might be hard to find, but you might want to look up the Leeco Umax85. It's a pretty loaded TV for <$3500, and pretty much unheard of value at 85". It's a no-name Chinese brand that generated a lot of excitement in AV circles when it was announced...there are some in homes now, I really haven't kept up with how they're performing in the wild.

I have a huge living room (here's a ~10 year old picture I found on Trulia):

I have a 55" against the wall on the right and it looks tiny..........I'd love to go up to at least a 70" and would prefer a 75". I also agree, you can't go too big.

I bought a 85in Sony something. It figgin nice.

But to be honest, my wife and I are already thinking we should have gone with a projection screen....a massive projection screen.

We just have so much wall space.

80 to 100 TVs in your living room ....that's baller.

Nah, the money partner on one of my projects is an aire with the b and he has one of the bleeding edge, not available to us poor normies, TVs that’s probably in the 200+ inch range. Some ultra high end HD display usually used for expensive commercial purposes. THAT’s baller.

I’m not bragging about getting a tv, I just want either a good but good priced 80-100 inch or else I’ll get a 70inch for the panel mounting.

We had a 55" in our living room but we have a long back wall and it looked small. Bought a 65" 4K in Jan 2016 and it fits the space better. For a larger room, a 65" is a perfect size.

I have a 106 inch projector/screen.

It’s great. Love watching movies and playing video games on it. Even working is nice. My computer is integrated. But, the room is completely light controlled. In a non light controlled environment the picture quality loss isn’t worth it.

In my living room, I have a 65 inch oled. It’s a beautiful picture. I hadn’t considered anything bigger than that for my living room.

I have a 75 inch Sony 4k that was about $2500 six months ago. Wish I went 80 or 85 honestly because my living room is 17 feet long and the TV just looks normal size at that distance. How deep is the room you're putting it in?

Good question (on exact room size), I’ll need to look it up they don’t list it on Zillow but I think I saw another realtor site that had the room sizes. It’s not a giant room compared to some of the houses I toured (and the one I really wanted that our realtor botched the sale). Just an ordinary sized living room (with a fireplace where the tv should go like 4/5s of the houses we looked at).

If the room is under 15 ft long you'd probably love a 75 in and put the extra money into audio

Good advice. Audio doesn't get as antiquated so quickly and not having kids you can crank it up and really enjoy great theater sound.

If the house is big enough you can crank it either way :)

I do agree audio makes the experience.

I have an Atmos setup in my living room and it is fun.

Any suggestions? I tend to like speakers that are nice looking as well as sounding (on my old main room setup which was “only” a 50 inch plasma, I used the Harman Kardon Aura as the main speaker and supplemented with some additional speakers).

I know TVs very well (OLED B6 in bedroom And 75” Sony x940D in living room), and this is the best advice in this thread. Never buy a tv bigger than 70” that is less than $2500, you’re better off getting a higher end 65” than a Vizio E-series (don’t buy anything under the vizio M).

Aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder.

In ceiling and wall tends to be unobtrusive. In my living room I have 4 in ceiling (front and back) and one in wall (center), a normal sub, and two fronts, which I think look nice, but they’re huge (monitor audio silver 10).

True (about aesthetics).

But for me, what I mean is I don’t like speakers that are overly large for their output/sound quality and that look like cheap black boxes. That’s why at the moment I have this Harman Kardon synced to the tv in my living room and it has great sound quality for a relatively small (maybe a foot tall and containing everything from subwoofer to tweeters) and nice looking speaker.

I’m keeping this one, it’s just moving into my new game room along with the tv for use with my retro video game collection.

I’ve got a Sugr Cube in the kitchen.

61eLTxXyttL._SY355_.jpg

I’ve got an AeroSkull HD hooked up to my old Batman CRT tv I use as one of my retro video game tvs (I’ve got systems as old as the original 1972 Magnavox Odyssey so I’ve got one old retro crt that has rf and coaxial inputs for the Odyssey, pong/discrete logic systems, Atari 2600 and other very old systems. And I have some imported Japanese old systems that use the rgb composite so I have a newer crt as well. The Batman CRT is for NES and its generation.). I have a little Bluetooth transmitter I plug into the back of the Batman CRT to have it work with modern speakers.

In the bedroom hooked up to the 55” 4K Roku tv (yeah my bedroom tv is better than the 50” 1080p Samsung Plasma I’ve got in living room, because I knew I was moving and the entertainment center is older and can only hold up to 60” tvs. There’s nothing wrong with that tv other than too small and not 4K which is why that’s going in my game room), I have a Yamaha Yas 107 soundbar with built in “subwoofer”. It’s not particularly nice looking but is small and out of the way and puts out decent sound for such a small setup. Could use more bass but it’s not intended to be our main tv anyways.

yamaha-107-final-1.jpg

I’ve got some other interesting looking speakers, I’ve got a weatherproof Dreamwave Tremor for outdoor parties/picnics.

tremor-speaker.jpg

And for our longer hiking trips, I have the midsize waterproof Lifejacket (the one about 6-8 inches long or so not the new giant one I’ve seen at BestBuy).

Those are all nice for what they are, but it's not how I'd want to address stereo music listening or TV/Movies.

Pretty options:

These are mine.

Scroll down and take a look at some of B&W's designs:

I like the 800D3s.

In your footprint favoring type, I might consider the Sonos playbar, w sub and play1s as rears.

These are cool:

These are also neat looking:

I do really like the looks of the persona especially in white as the living room will be all white, light honey woods, aqua, turquoise and light driftwood greys. That’s one reason not to get the boring black box speakers. I’m not sure I’m ready to pony up $31k for a speaker set yet though as I doubt I would notice much of a difference between that and a sub $5k set. Honestly I’d prefer to keep the tv plus speakers under say $5-6k total or at least under $10k as I’m planning on buying a ton of other things simultaneously (need a new washer and dryer, three outdoor cooking pieces (an egg of some sort, gas grill, small smoker), all new couches, living room furniture and dining room furniture (we’re switching from the older dark brown woods and color scheme that’s outdated to lighter woods and a more modern color scheme). So I’ve set aside about $40k for all of that. Could I afford more, absolutely, but I’d like to keep everything in the $40k range if I can. I did luck out and got a light beige solid marble table and a matching metal and marble buffet for the dining room at a consignment shop for only $900 so that gives me a little bit extra in the budget....just not $31k.

But thank you that definitely gives me some ideas for a line of searches on the speakers. I’ll try to see if there’s some white, beige or light wood speakers in my price point or not way too far outside of it.
