Been a complete casual NFL fan my entire life while
directing all of my real fanhood to FSU. Lived with a friend of mine
several years ago who is a big time Pitt fan and, of course, watched
several games with him. For whatever reason, here recently while trying
to find a team to latch on to I keep going back to Pitt.

I live in Ga so
the obvious choice would be Falcons but the fan-base is so blah that I
can't get excited about it.

Tampa would be the most "FSU NFL team" but again, can't get into them
for whatever reason.

Anyone here a Pitt supporter?

My wife is from Pittsburgh and the only sports team she followed at all when we met was the Steelers. Been to games at both the old Three Rivers and Heinz Field.

I live in Florida, but I was born close to Pittsburgh, and my folks are from there. Been a fan of the Steelers all my life.

I was a casual fan of the Steelers for many years--many colorful players and coaches, unprecedented success, great teams. I soured on them as I met or became acquainted with people from PIttsburgh, ALL of them rabid Steeler fans. Their fan base is, quite literally, the Gators of the NFL. You would think the sun rises and sets over the city, and by extension, the team.

I always query these people as to why they choose to live in a traffic clogged, hot, Southern city like Atlanta when PIttsburgh is such a paradise. They generally say something to the effect of employment opportunities/money they can make. Humph. Paradise indeed.

Consequently, I root for whoever is playing the Squealers that week.

Just my 2 cents. Been there for our games in the past and last year, and always had a good time. It's their fans that drive me nuts.

That's the first I've ever heard that description of Steelers fans Ed. There is no denying they are a passionate fan base but to say they are the gators of the NFL? Fair weather, band wagon fans they are not.

Pittsburgh is still identified as a blue collar town even though the majority of the steel mills closed years ago. The change to a technology based economy has caused many to seek opportunities elsewhere. The fact that hasn't lessened their allegiance to their team should be applauded IMO.

Jim, again, I can only speak to the ones I know here in the Atlanta area. I'm in a group that has big playoff parties every weekend leading up to the Super Bowl, and when the Steelers are in it, they're the most obnoxious people I've ever met (outside Hogtown of course) but if Pittsburgh isn't in the playoffs, they don't even wear the colors to the party, and if you suggest something negative about that, be prepared for a tongue lashing. Hell, I even wear my Falcon crap regardless--THAT takes passion, lol.

And it may be just me and my particular social circle; a few of these people are also Pitt alums, and believe that it was/is the finest college football program in history with the most national championships, etc., etc. I shouldn't disparage an entire fanbase base on a sample size of 10 or so expatriates. Apologies extended to the real fans out there.

Every fan base has those who embarrass them. I can see how much the Noles bandwagon has grown since the MNC. The only thing positive about not winning another will be those folks jumping back off.

if by "FSU NFL team" you mean team with the most FSU players, i would go with the bills, they have a lot of our former players. The jags have quite a few as well, but...they're the jags.
