I had it in my right foot about 15 years ago and ended up having surgery on it with no recurring problems to date. Now I have it in my left foot. I've had it for about a year now and it's getting worse. I do the rolling of the frozen bottle of water, stretches, naproxen, sleeping boot and cortisone shots. Nothing has worked just like 15 years ago. When I was at the podiatrist he stated he will NOT do surgery on it until after a year of therapy type treatments. He stated it is too dangerous of a surgery that has many risks. I told him I had it done 15 yrs. ago and I would think technology is much more advanced now but he stuck with "nope"...My question is, are there any less known remedies or treatments that anyone has had success with?

I've had it twice and it can be miserable. My doctor had me wrap it in a method that kept it from flexing --both around the heel and also over the top and under the sole and then back to top. Fairly easy to do and it eventually healed but very gradually. And he suggested wearing tennis shoes or sine thing soft and comfortable but with support.
Good luck and don't expect a quick fix

God, I didn't realize it could be that bad. Diagnosed with it about 10 years ago. Really just had pain after getting out of bed. He gave me the boot an orthotics and it solved it in a couple weeks. When it flares up just wear the boot and it resolves it. I might add I trail run every 2-3 days and am in good shape.

Good shoe inserts and good shoes period. I also bought crocs for in my house and try to wear them versus going barefoot. I wore a boot at night for like 3-4 months plus the frozen bottle rolls regularly and mine healed up. The shoe inserts and crocs have kept it gone for like 3 years now.

Everyone's different. I had it about 10 years ago - just a few trips to the Doc - he did some kind of sonic therapy - was supposed to break up the calcium deposit. Told me at the time he was a foot doc for 35 years and never one time had to perform a procedure to remove it. I was told that I would forever have it and if I start running for just a few days it hurts like hell again.

Good luck with it.

I had it once - wore the boot thingy for about 3 months and it went completely away, fortunately.

I had it in one foot from my soccer days and it took years after i was done playing to heal. Shoe inserts, low impact cardio(no more cleats and less road running) and losing weight, and i havent had any issues in years.

Had it twice in my right foot foot. Cortisone injection and the podiatrist took a cast of my feet and had custom made orthotics for both feet, $200. Went away for about 6 months and then the orthotic for my right foot developed a hairline crack(made of carbon fiber), while I was playing basketball. Ended up tearing the fascia completely. Another cortisone shot and new orthotics and I haven't had a issue in 5 years. Took about 6 weeks for the fascia to heal. If you can get your doc to make you some orthotics I believe they help a ton. They support the arch. A bit uncomfortable for about week but now I don't notice them in my shoes. I just move them to the pair of shoes I'm wearing. I play basketball twice a week now. Doc also said that flip flops are not your friend. Not much arch support.

I have an orthotic(meaning where they take a molding of your foot and make it) for my repaired foot, not one for my left(bad)..I have a plantar fascia heel cushion thing in my left boot.It seemed to help for a week or 2 but it hasn't helped any for the last month.
As far as footwear, I have to wear steel toe boots for 8+ hrs./day and I'm on my feet all day. I wear a pair of Redwing boots that are very comfortable. I never go barefoot at home, either.
I did see that sonic treatment on Dr. Oz or something on you tube. That Dr. had a couple treatments that supposedly work(according to him). I'm not sure if that was something only select hospitals/dr.'s use or if it is widely used.
Sounds like some of you have had success with the boot and orthotics so I'll stick with the boot and ask about getting a foot mold done for the orthotic.
Thanks for the suggestions..

See if the doc will give you a cortisone shot. Hurts like hell but it alleviated my pain within a day.

Yes - ouch! I stopped running marathons 3 years ago after competing 68 in 17b years -- 4-5 a year. I fished the Lincoln Marathon with Plantar Fasciitis and it was not a fun experience. I was played up for 3 months after and used a road bile to keep in shape. I trained of a couple of months after that and ran another Marathon. The only way I was able to cure it was no high impact training, plenty of ice, plenty of stretching and time. It hurts like heck. I guess we could ask Peyton Manning about it. Coincidentally, his brother had it a few years back as well. Good luck!!

Had it. Had to stop running for a bit and just wore the brace at night. Used a cold coke can to relieve pain and stretch it out. Went away after a few months.

That treats the symptom not the problem...
Thanks doc. That's why I said it alleviated my pain. Never said it cured it. OP said they were on their feet 8+ hours/day. Gonna be tough for the foot to heal without being able to rest it.

Also forgot to say stretching before you stand and put weight on it helps with the pain.
My wife ordered some "plantar fasciitis
flip flops " for me and I love them. Made by Orthaheel. Again, good luck

Yep they suck big time...already had one. Didn't work. He can do 2 more, if I allow them. I had 3 in my right heel and it didn't even alleviate the pain/discomfort for a day. I am not a believer in them.
I have had numerous cortisone shots-knees, elbows and heels. None have worked and they can actually cause more damage. The one in the heel is by far the worst.

I had a plantar wart one time, a wart that grew in the hard calloused heel of my foot. The doctor had to cut it out, I didn't think I would ever walk right again.
