Going to a party for a buddy's wife tomorrow, and when I asked what I could bring, he said she likes red sangria. Cool. Only I don't know know how to make it. You guys have any good recipes?

Start with some apples and wine
Blend in some brandy and some sugar's fine
Yeah old friends always roll up on time
That's why you add sparkling Burgundy wine
Yeah I love that sangria wine
When I'm drinkin' with old friends of mine

Cheap red wine, I do whatever I have around, and don't mind mixing a few bottles of different red together.

Add fruit. I use berries, strawberries, blueberrys, make suer to cut or crush them so the flavors blend. I'll use some canned little mandarins or peaches sometimes with the syrup.

Add about 2oz of booze per bottle of wine, I like to use dark rum, some people use brandy. But really whatever.

If I don't use any canned fruit I'll use about a table spoon of honey per bottle of wine I use too.

make it tonight and let the fruit mingle overnight. Good stuff.

Also a few sticks of cinnamon - as someone else said, let it mingle with the berries overnight.

Ive used this recipe with success many times.

Ingredients
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapple
  • Apple
  • Peach
  • 1 orange
  • 1 1/2 cups rum
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 (750 milliliter) Blackberry Merlot
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • Optional add 8-12 oz of ginger ale or sprite/tonic
Directions
  1. Have the fruit, rum, wine, and orange juice well chilled. Slice the lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in a large glass pitcher. Pour in the rum and sugar. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to develop the flavors.
  2. When ready to serve, crush the fruit lightly with a wooden spoon and stir in the wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness to taste.

On the rare occasions I drink sangria, this song always comes in my head. Jerry Jeff's live version of this is awesome
