In 1988 FSU was pre-season #1 in the country. FSU was playing the defending NC Miami in Miami on a great Labor Day night matchup. I was a sophomore at FSU and went to the game expecting a great game like it was the year before. In 1987 FSU lost to Miami 26-25 because FSU went for 2 points at Doak on the final play of the game. Some sportswriters call the 1987 game, the best college football game they have ever seen.
During the summer of 1988, FSU football players make a rap video which Miami Coach Jimmy Johnson played at least 3-4 times a day for his team to watch. Miami destroyed FSU 31-0 in a game that really wasn't close. Of course 2 games later, FSU pulled the puntrooskie against Clemson to beat them at Death Valley. FSU finished 1988 season #3 in the country.
Why am I bring this history back? Well as I prepare to go see another historic opening Labor Day weekend game between 2 powerhouse teams-- Alabama vs FSU. I will be there to chant and cheer the Noles on to victory. However if the Noles fall to Alabama then I will be reminded of the words that I read the day after that awful defeat at the hands of Miami in 1988.

Go Noles beat Bama!!
