Of 24 starters on FSU's 2013 national title team, 17 have been drafted and three more could be drafted next year (Ramsey, Aguayo and Terrance Smith). That would give the Seminoles 20 of 24 starters being selected in the NFL Draft.

I decided to look back at how that stacks up with other teams in recent history, particularly that 2001 Miami team that had 11 first-round picks. Here's the story:

Best of the best?

As Fisher says in the story, what might push FSU over the edge is having Jameis at quarterback. As loaded as that UM team was, the difference between Jameis and Ken Dorsey is monumental.

Fisher also pointed to some intangibles about that 2013 team ... he said there were so many competitors on that team, which made every practice a war. While everyone knows what a competitor Jameis was and what that did for the offense, he said Telvin Smith did the same thing for the defense. Looking back, Telvin was the emotional leader on defense "by far," according to Fisher.

“The guy that’s the most underrated is Telvin,” Fisher said. “People have no idea how great a football player he was.”

Not that Timmy Jernigan, Terrence Brooks and Lamarcus Joyner were far behind in terms of leadership. Fisher said their intensity and desire was what propelled that defense to a higher level. And he said that made for some legendary clashes with Winston in practice.

“They’d go at it every day," Fisher said.

That might explain why the Seminoles won their regular-season games by an average of 42 points, compared to less than 34 points for that 2001 UM team.

Starting with 2001, here's how many starters each national team had drafted:

2001 Miami -- 19 drafted (11 first-rounders)
2002 Ohio State -- 20 drafted)
2003 LSU -- 12 drafted
2004 USC -- 16 drafted
2005 Texas -- 14 drafted
2006 Florida -- 10 drafted
2007 LSU -- 13 drafted
2008 Florida -- 12 drafted
2009 Alabama -- 13 drafted
2010 Auburn -- 5 drafted
2011 Alabama -- 15 drafted
2012 Alabama -- 15 drafted
2013 Florida State -- 17 drafted (four still in college)
