Off season pickups so far:
RA Dickey
Bartolo Colon

Not sure what's going on up there.

I wonder if they are just hoping to fill some innings. I know neither will really help, but if they can add some stability, eat innings, maybe they can approach 81-81 next year.

Yes, I know it's overly optimistic...

I think what they're saying is they have no trust in their young rotation.
Agreed. This would at least take pressure off of them and maybe have a 5 man rotation that's stable for the season.
Maybe next year is when they pick up the bats. Sure haven't this year. However kemp improved the lineup quite a bit. Was nice to have a HR threat behind Freddie.

The young arms are not ready and this will allow for a set rotation and then use the 5 spot as testing grounds for the youngsters, or even get another arm. The bats on the market this year are not worth the price tag. The team could explore trades, but by signing these 2 to 1 year contracts, clearly showing at least 1 more year of a bridge to the future.

Read yesterday that the Braves might be players for Chris Sale. Other than his melt down over the throw back uniforms last year I haven't heard anything bad about him. That would be a trade I'd be happy with.

Depends on how many and which top prospects are going to Chicago. Most reports say the start is Albies, Newcomb, Allard, plus a few more. Not sure I want to give up that much.

I think the Braves should be negotiating from a position of power here given they have a deeper system than the other teams looking to possibly acquire him. They should have to only beat the offer of those other teams not necessarily offer everything the White Sox are asking. Of course, that strategy only works if they truly want to move him.

I agree, just repeating what the reports were saying the Braves would have to offer to get Sale.

In former Braves news, the Yankees traded Brian McCann to Houston. McCann and Evan Gattis will be teammates once again.
