I am not happy about the political influence in these cases against the realities of "Due Process" rights of students. The supreme court has been clear about the role of the school's administration to protect the safety of all students at times over what appears to be the constitutional rights of individual students. However, I am troubled by the punishment issued to students influenced by the media's mob mentality that is counter to efforts to help students mature and learn from their mistakes. We had a policy rule that stated that we dismiss students only on felony infractions, now we go against this policy.
I am also concerned about the lack of open statements about the behavior of women by the administration. As a father of three well educated women I would not condone drunken behavior on their part. Consider that in domestic violence situations both the man and the woman are arrested together in many districts. The rule of never hit a woman is incomplete. It should be never hit another human being period.
