Based on the mess alone, we have considered switching to a fake. Anyone have a fake and love it (do you remember the brand?)? Anyone make the switch and ready to move back to a real?

#firstworldproblems

I do prefer a real, but the convenience of a fake is making me want to switch. If we were going out and hoping down a tree each year, I wouldn't be considering the switch.

Had to add a poll to help keep track based on veiled language.

Real. I do hate needles everywhere but still needs to be real. Christmas trees have gotten expensive as of late.

I too am considering the move to fake - seems like the next few days would be the time to buy! I need to know some brands as well

We got a prewired fake one. It’s ready to go in 15 min.

Interesting though - was in Home Depot recently and saw a bunch of fake ones with white stuff sprayed all over them. Until now I’ve only seen those on the Interwebz.

I was looking and have also seen plenty of white ones @Formerly Rockymtnole . I think I prefer the non-whites if I am honest.

My wife was the one who introduced the idea of fake, so guess that means she is onboard. She generally forgets to moisturize them, which makes em look sad faster and as mentioned above, just messy and droopy.

I also think the fakes o cost a bit more, but the ROI exists, buy now, have them look good for years.

Real or fake doesn't matter. Either way, you've got to trade em' out for a younger one when they start to show their age.

Wife went with fake last year. Not the same feel or smell but gets the job done
Easy solution for the smell: just add tassels

Works even better as a wreath:

About twelve years ago I switched to a fake tree. It literally might be one of the three best decisions I've ever made in my life.

Real trees had gotten so expensive, $80-100 for just a decent looking good sized tree. I was constantly getting trees that I was either unsatisfied with how they looked, or unsatisfied with how much I paid. I was starting to get the tree like a week before Christmas when they were cheap so I could afford a decent tree. And I hated dealing with the needles, trying to get them balanced, etc to the point I really dreaded the whole experience. But I came from a family that was hardcore real tree, so it's just what I did.

Then when my youngest was about three, I got a call at work that the tree fell down and smashed glass ball ornaments all over the room, shards of glass and needles everywhere.

That was the last straw. After Christmas we hit up the clearance sales and got a nice pre lit 7.5' tree for like $225, down from $600. Every year when I put that thing up in 20 minutes, and I've got a beautiful, tall, symmetrical and BALANCED tree, I reflect on how happy I am that we did that.

I haven't missed having a real tree for one single second.

Several years back, after the kids mostly left our house, we started going with a smaller tree, even just a table top model sometimes. Easier to set up and such. The present pile is much smaller and our room just fits well with a small tree.
So this year, wifey and I walked thru a lot full of really nice, locally grown Fraser Firs, which is the Cadillac tree in the east.
It was pouring the rain on Saturday after turkey day. $75-$125 was the range for most, and they were good lookin’ trees standing from 5’ up to around 10’.
I spotted one leaning against the tool shed that was obviously not a star. At 6’, it has a bent trunk, relatively sparse limbs, and only about a 3’ diameter. Me and Charlie Brown raced for it and he musta tripped on Linus’s blanket, ‘cause I got there first.
Proudly toting it over to the man, I asked him what he wanted for our poor little prize. Traffic was down that day in miserable weather, and the guy knew that he better get what he could from the dumb slug in front of him. Sensing the chance to atone for a lesser product, he cut his eyes at me and said, “20 bucks”, and was probably waiting for a counter offer. “She’ll take it, I told him”, quick like before he had second thoughts, and the rest is history.
Wifey worked her magic, with a little help from Linus, Lucy, and the gang and here we sit sipping coffee next to our beautiful tree on another glorious Christmas morning.
Happy Holiday’s and Merry Christmas, to all a y’all!,

I've turned anti-pine tree since one fell on our house during Michael so we backed down to using a potted Northfork Pine this year.

I like the fake ones with lights on them.

Same with trees.
The Reply that saved Christmas. An old friend passed away on the 23rd and I was having a sleepless night so started reading this thread. Gary, your Reply got me laughing so hard I woke up my wife. At first she thought I was sobbing so I showed her the thread. A tip of the cap Sir. Merry Christmas to all of you. The LR...a great diversion.

That's got to be the best "like" ever. Glad I could help.
Sorry about your friend.
Merry Christmas everyone.
