Well, this is a new one for me. I've written a clarification on my report from late Saturday about Leonard Hamilton's contract. Never had to do anything like this before ... which I think is a good thing.
Here's the clarification I just posted. Please read it.
Going back over the interview and after talking through it with Stan Wilcox, I understand how there could have been some miscommunication.
I've personally never seen a situation where a university announces a contract extension with a coach and waits more than a year to actually sign it, so it never dawned on me that he could be talking about the one announced last February. But Stan explained that he thought I knew the original one was never formalized, so he thought I knew what he was talking about.
I'll definitely accept some of the blame because I could have been more thorough in my reporting. But this is a weird one. I'll offer some more thoughts in a column I'm writing for later today.
As I said in the clarification, my No. 1 priority is providing our readers with accurate, timely information. So I'm sorry that didn't happen here. I'll also be happy to answer any questions you might have.
