I don't watch MLB and I have no idea who this guy is...but he's a baller for what he's just done. Kudos, Cole.

The house, which sits on a lake outside of Branson, Missouri, will be given to Camp Barnabas, a faith-based group that “helps individuals with special needs and chronic illnesses.” As the name suggests, the group provides camping experiences, so the acreage and home will either serve that end or, possibly, sold to help fund that end.

He's a better person because he can afford to give away a 10 mil house?!? By that logic, he's a better person than Jesus who, according to the Bible, never gave away a 10 mil house either.

But it is an awesome gesture by Cole Hamels!
Yeah, play semantics all you want.

He's a better person than you (and me...and just about everyone else) are. Sorry.

What if he treats people poorly in his every day life and is a serial adulterer but still gave the house away? Is he still a better person? While I agree it’s an incredibly generous thing to do I have a feeling he’s not living in a 2 bedroom apartment in Texas.

Keep making up reasons to believe a guy who just gave away a $10 mil house isn't a better person than you are.

Hamels is living proof of what I said about LHP's in a recent thread. He's maybe slightly better than mediocre at his craft yet gets paid an exorbitant amount because southpaws are valued so highly in MLB.

i agree that this gesture was incredibly generous and something none of us could afford, however history is littered with men and women who've donated tremendous amounts of money but turned out to be awful people. drug lords, philanderers, rapists, tax evaders, corrupt politicians, murderers, dictators, etc...

that's not to say he's any of those but let's not conflate charity with being a good person.

a poor man with not a dime to his name can be a better person than any benevolent millionaire unless you simply measure ones goodness by their cash contributions.

Sure wish I had a pitching coach when I was little and had grown earlier. Oh, what could have been.

It's 42% of one year's salary. Are you assuming this is his only charitable giving? Would you be OK with Les' statement if he gave away $10MM every year?
I have no problem with Cole Hamels. As a matter of fact, I believe everyone who can give to charity should give. And Cole has certainly stepped up!
It's the statement that he's a "better person" in the title that I take umbrage to. As a blanket statement to everyone who reads that title, I can't imagine all of them are inferior. You can twist the words to see fit however you want to believe but it's still faulty logic.

Said in the other thread if I'd ever had a boy I would have groomed him to be left-handed from birth.

I have a friend whose kid is 14, throws 80+, and a lefty. funny thing is up until his 12 year old season of LL, we didn't know if he was a lefty or righty. He was absolutely terrible. Funny how things can change after a couple years of puberty

If you have a daughter, get her involved with that kid ASAP !

That kid's gonna be rich.

That is cool and kudos to him; but there is one person on this board he is not better than. Care to guess who???

Curious if the hostility towards the donor's gift would change if the thread title simply stated, "Cole Hamels is a Good Person"?
