Ok. Not solely a Seminole sports topic, but this was absolutely historic. Congrats to Sam, his family and the NFL!!

I don't think you can expect people to think there's nothing different about being gay if you treat things like Sam being drafted as a big deal. Why was it big news when he came out? His team didn't care. His league didn't care. The NCAA didn't care.
Every story out of the nfl was that there are plenty of gay football players and no one cared.
Sam was drafted at his talent level. Who cares?

It's a big deal because ESPN is telling you it's a big deal. That's the only reason.Originally posted by Fabulous_Nole:
You have not been following history if you can't see why this is a big deal.

It's just started. Wait till E Net News and Ellen run with the follow-up stories.Originally posted by fsugrad:
I agree with the above poster. It's a big deal because ESPN wants it to be. I was up early this morning and they ran the gay make out video TWICE in five minutes' time. Not only that, they ran the additional video Of him and his boyfriend feeding each other celebratory cake or whatever and licking/kissing the frosting off each others' mouths. I don't want to see this gay or straight. God help the Rams if they cut him. Right now they are the champions of tolerance. If they cut him they'll be accused of being raging homophobes.
Yep. Deion Sanders said all 5 NFL teams he was on had at least 1 gay player and the entire locker room knew it. Yet you never heard about that. Why is/was it OK to assume the NFL has always been homophobic? Maybe the NFL was/is ahead of society in that they didn't care what someone's sexual preference was? Sure seems like it is being made a bigger deal by the media and society than it is to the players in the NFL.Originally posted by AllNoles:

No different from AJ McHandoff whining about his low draft pick and how he played hurt at Bama blah blah blah... $ec kids are just whiners. He's no diff from AJ except that he likely has more NFL upside than bama's dbag.Originally posted by fsugrad:
The fact that he's short and slow and performed horribly during his Pro Day had nothing to do with it.
He's
already being a whiny cry baby. How bout just saying "Appreciate the
opportunity with the Rams. Looking forward to getting down to business."
Instead it's this tweet.
Sam: "From last season alone, I should've been in the first three rounds. SEC Defensive Player of the Year, All-American." #RamsDraft
Agreed, it is a big deal. And the press always makes a big deal of the first gay this, the first black that, the first woman this.Originally posted by NoleLizards:
Oh, c'mon people & quit being such a wet blanket. I think Sam has displayed extraordinary courage for being the first football player at this level to put it out there publicly that he's gay. Because of people like him, one day, such a thing won't be newsworthy, but for now it is.

Well put good sir.Originally posted by kelleynole#1:
If gays want to be treated as if being gay is normal they need to stop making a big deal out of things like this. If it is normal then this isn't a story. Of course we all know it isn't normal, it is a defect people are born with. Nothing wrong with it, but not normal. In 100 years we could have more blacks than whites in this country, in 100 years we will have more heterosexuals in this country. That is guaranteed.
The issue here is that gays started out wanting equal rights and protections under the law. They basically have gotten that and with it tolerance. Now they want to be liked and that takes more time. Many of us have no problems with someone being gay but just find it gross. Like I don't find old people attractive, I don't like watching dog fights etc. Being gay is fine, but gross.
And just to clarify, gay men are gross because men are gross. I love two chicks going at it because I like chicks.
