Cost to cut down a Queen Palm

There was a guy working on my neighbor's palms a few minutes ago. I have a dead queen palm about 25 feet high in my yard. He asked if I wanted it cut down. I asked how much and he said $40. That seemed like a bargain, so I told him to go ahead. I just looked online at a few places and they said it would cost $150+ for removal. He isn't removing the whole thing, just cutting it down to the ground. Is that the big difference? Any issues with cutting to the ground as opposed to completely removing? I made sure to ask about haul-away and he said the $40 includes him hauling it away.

Am I missing something or am I just getting a good deal?

the root ball will need to be removed if you ever plan on planting anything in that spot in the future. Still a pretty good deal though just to get rid of the eye sore.

They are gone now. They cut it down to where it is about 2-3 inches above the ground. They hauled away the tree. It is not that noticeable in the yard.

I'm new to this, what does the grinding do? It is barely above ground now. Does grinding just get it down a little more, like completely flat with the ground or are you talking about where you can take the whole thing out?

Cutting it down and hauling is the easy part, the stump removal is the PIA. I think you're getting a fair "I'm already here with the tools and the truck" deal.

Get a drill with a long, thick drill bit and drill a bunch of holes into the stump. Fill those holes with sugar water. The bugs will end up eating a bunch of the stump away for you.
Epsom salt also works if you'd rather dry it out than attract bugs.

Drill a few holes in it and pour gas on it...

$40 to cut and haul is cheap!

Paint it the color of the grass

That type root ball is an “ itch” to take out

I think it is low enough that it can be mowed over.

I came up with a great idea for it. First, I could drill some holes in it ...
Have drill, will travel. I currently have a “Queen” of a special running. Holla atcha boy...

Since you didn't go for the stump grinding ask him how much for a good drilling?

Diesel fuel, let it soak in and light it. It will smolder for days.
If you do have it ground out, don't put the sawdust back in the hole, it takes forever to decompose. Fill it with some dirt from Lowe's/HD. Or I guess sand in your area.

You paid what for that? You could have cut that down with a decent steak knife...

You know how much decent steak knives cost these days? I was looking at my friend's wedding registry recently and they wanted some steak knives. It was $400 for a set of steak knives. No forks, no spoons, nothing but steak knives. I'm happy to pay some yard gypsies to cut down a tree so I don't ruin my steak knives.

Based on previous steak preparation threads here, any steak worth eating can be cut with a fork or butter knife.

Just so I don't get accused of blatant hijacking, drill some holes in that stump. :):D:p
