Heading to Daytona Beach for 5 days with the wife and kids. Staying at a condo on the beach. Any recommendations on things to do and/or places to eat?

It is a legendary white-trash mecca, for sure, but not without some highlights. Try Billy's Tap Room, a quality restaurant where you may see NASCAR executives. Consider a short drive up to Flagler Beach for High Tide's/Snack Jacks. Also consider a short drive south to Down the Hatch. A fun game to play is to look for women NOT smoking cigarettes or sporting tattoos. That is a really small universe in Daytona.

i dont' know why daytona gets such a bad rap - its less trashy than destin imho. maybe we've gotten lucky on the weeks we've gone, dont' know.

bsides the beach, there's putt putt golf. you can tour the nascar track. there are probably go carts. there is a water park we have never made it to. Daytona cubs are fun. there is a lighthouse at ponce inlet and a small science museum. short excursions would be the cape Kennedy space center, airbout/alligator rides.

restaruants, we like RipTide and Stonewood grill in ormond beach.

Having lived in the Daytona area for some 19 years my suggestion would be to use your condo as a base to make day trips elsewhere. St Augustine and the beach park at Ponce Inlet are the 2 I'd recommend.

Less trashy than Destin? Really? I don't really case for Destin, but its head and shoulders better than Daytona. I had the misfortune of living there for six months and the place is a hole.

Well thanks for the heads up. I will try to make the best of it then. Will try the Brickyard Burger and Riptide.

Will also try to make sure I somehow squeeze in to the in laws should they do it again of better locations. What do you guys recommend for beach condos that is within a couple hours drive from Jax? Jekyll Island, Hilton Head???

We go to Daytona every year & always have a good time. Doubt I'd want to live there, but I have fun for a weekend.

Towards the south, under the Port Orange bridge, Our Deck Down Under is pretty good (mostly fried stuff). To the north, Charley Horse tavern has good food & reasonable prices.
