Our Directv receivers are getting aged and not working properly so I called them and I am having the old equipment replaced with new wireless boxes etc. My dilemma is I have nearly all of the Championship Season Recorded minus the Clemson game which was unfortunately deleted by accident. Is there a way to pull programming off of the box and add to another device? If not I may cancel.

Had the same issue and the short answer is no. I suggested that they make it like iTunes where your saved stuff would transfer to the new box. No matter what you do unless you continue to use the old box - which will only get worse - they're gone.

Follow Mandarin on YouTube, all issues resolved.

I'm not sure about direct but I was able to on my dish receivers. Saved it to an external hard drive then loaded it to my new hopper box. It was fairly simle but it did take a while.

To me, this is the issue that Apple TV is working on for its next version of its product. I would much rather buy a movie off iTunes than my cable service as I can watch it anywhere with my Mac or iPad, or watch it on my tv with my apple tv. I wish I could do that with all my recorded shows

OP went through the same thing recently when I dumped DirecTV for Century Link Prism and I never found a way to save my Recorded Shows and I researched it a lot...according to DirecTV that saving show capability does not exist for copyright reasons which seems like a hopelessly antiquated reason to me

Is your bill going up as well? I need to get this done.

I did the same thing with my dish dvr. Saved to external drive.

I had the same issue, all the way down to not having the Clemson game recorded. I had two boxes, one in living room and one in bedroom. I saved the old box from my livng room and moved it to my bedroom and added the new Genie box in the livng room. So now I can record 7 shows at once and keep all my old recordings as well as having a whole new storage on my living room tv.

Another reason to have Dish. You can store your recordings on and external hard drive.

Yuck, Dish is awful. Poor HD picture compared to Direct TV (step dad had both and the picture quality isn't really that close) plus the Dish software is fairly poor.

You can dump your DTV shows onto an external hard drive if there's USB ports, if there's an HDMI output or a digital output. If you can manage to plug your computer to your box, it can be done.

After 21 years of being with Directv, I switched to Dish a few months back and do not regret it. Dish can do so much more in terms of software especially on the mobile side. Plus it's less expensive. Also any myth that Directv has more HD channels is false. I have 5 other very picky people in my house and not a single one of them has commented about picture quality but I also have high quality Samsung tv's. I noticed some pixel issues on the first day but after the first 24 hour software upgrade, no video issues.
