An 8-month-old baby girl has died after being mauled by a pit bull at her grandmother’s home in Florida.

The girl, later identified as Liana Valino, was attacked at the property in Miramar on Wednesday morning after being dropped off by her mother.

The child was in a bouncy chair in the bedroom when she was attacked by the family pet, reports the Miami Herald.

I’m thinking the Romans could have come up with a fitting end to the owners of these animals.

Article said they're not sure if they're going to euthanize the dog.

Can you imagine when the mother of the baby that was killed goes back over to grandma's house and possibly sees that thing still there?

Don't know, but my dogs have been far better judges of character than any person I've ever met or heard of.
Really? I've got a 7 mo. old Australian Sheperd. Supposedly a genius dog.

Barks at every black person she sees. I'm talking out of control, crazy barking. Embarrasses the hell out of me. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old. I love her madly, but I wouldn't trust her judge of character!

You must have a much more enlightened dog than mine.

My dog is black.

Hey I’ve got black friends man!

...My dog’s black too. Doesn’t seem to matter.
I've heard of what you said. They used to call them white dogs. It's probably been trained and/or bred into them. The research on memory recently has shown that it is passed on biologically, but that does go for humans too.

My last dog was an Akita. She could tear any pitbull in half if she wanted to, and she did. I couldn't take her around other dogs. Once she nearly killed a prize Doberman that was off leash at my apartment complex. On the other hand, she was super friendly with people and particularly kids. My son and nephews used to ride her like a horse. I really only remember her barking at one person, who was a panhandler in SF.

My current dog is a rescue coonhound. She's is nothing if not cute, and quite skiddish as she was abused. She's also extremely jealous and territorial with other dogs at our house. At the dog park she submits to pretty much every dog, but at home barks like a she wolf it any dog walks by.

Glad neither one barks(ed) at black people though. My neighborhood is %60 black and all of our friends on the block are black.

Anyway, it really isn't the dogs fault. Whether it's the current owner or genetic memories passsed on from breeders or previous generations owners, it is a trained behavior. if we got rid of pit bulls those who want mean intimidating dogs would just go with another breed, and there are much more capable killler dogs out there. Just be glad Cane Corso hadn't taken a hold with those who want a nasty killer dog.

I bet that dog is Clayton Bigsby approved.

That's the problem. That dog was just a bad judge of that baby's character.

In my experience dogs judge the people they meet based in large part on the people they've already met.

This was covered on the Dog Whisperer. You're supposed to wear blackface for two weeks and take the dog to as many public places as you can. Good luck!

This slayed me for some reason, intentional or not.

So back to your later point. You're saying that there are racist dogs and that they have a genetic predisposition bred into them?

It was intentional, glad you liked it.

The other distinct possibility is that the owner is a little uncomfortable around black people and the dog picks up on that and becomes aggressive as a protective response. Or even the other way around, the other person could be uncomfortable around the dog and that could be the initial cause of the aggression.

In retrospect the term "white dog" is from a movie on the subject, though I think the term predates the movie title.

You know I just had a feeling when I told that story that some jackass was going to go the direction you went, but I figured, nah, I'll tell it anyway...b/c while it's hugely embarrassing for me to be present when the dog behaves this way, for better or worse, the dog just is that way, and I'll be damned if I can figure out why.

Bonus points that the guy who went there has a confederate flag as his avatar. That's rich.

I would be shocked if modern breeds had a racist bias to them. I think the other point you made about dogs being in tune with subconscious actions if the owner to be more true. Hell, they have dogs trained to detect ptsd and seizures just based on the breathing and mannerisms of their owner.

According to the theory that the dog barks at races based on the owner...

This thread is gold.

Wow, little touchy there.

I was hesitant to post that, but like it or not it's the most widely accepted explanation.

And as I said, it's not always the owner that makes the dog uncomfortable. It can be the other person as well

In any case, your dog can't actually be racist. He was either trained or bred that way, or he's reacting to a person or persons behavior.

Man, this country is really starting to suck. Can't even have a thread demeaning killer dog breeds without it turning into a discussion on race.
My dog barks at everyone he doesn't know, and he damn well better.
