I post this every year the week before the season starts. One of the all time best FSU stories. It's a shame so many of the former players have left the boards, probably because of the constant negativity and fighting between our own freakin fan base. Stolen from the tomahawk board....

Rumor made its way up here that one of their players was going to steal the spear when Chief Osceola threw it into the ground. That's why things went as they did before the game. While I don't recall who the UM player was who had been telling people he was going to do it, I remember it was a defensive player and that John Brown shadowed him the whole time ready to go after him if he made a move for the spear.

As a player I don't think I ever saw our coaching staff more confident going into a game. When we met with Coach McDuffie before the game he told us the first play would be 47 (toss sweep to the weak side of our formation) and that it would be a touchdown.

When Coach Bowden talked to the entire team before games he would go through the first 5 or 6 plays on offense and tell us what they would be. He would typically say something to the effect of, "On offense we'll start off with a 44 then come back with a 46 then we'll go with 344 Cadillac, followed by..." as he worked his way through those first 5 or 6 plays. We (the OL) already knew the first play was going to be 47 and Coach McDuffie's opinion of how the play would end up. Coach Bowden told us the first play would be 47 and then didn't mention another play. It was the only time in 4 years he only gave us the first play of the game as opposed to the first 5 or 6 or 7. The OL looked at one another and we knew it was going to be a great night.

We won the toss, deferred to the 2nd half and Miami had the ball. Tipped pass, INT by Leroy and it was our ball. The first play was R47 and Dexter took it to the house!!!!
