Piggybacking off the other thread about cutting the cable cord.. I have an Apple TV and trying to activate ESPN with a Spectrum cable account. Has anyone had a problem with this? Every time I get to the activate page and put in the code they give me, the espn.com/activate page says it's now taking me to the Spectrum log in page. But before I can log in, it just directly sends me to a screen that says I've successfully activated the Apple TV with ESPN. The Apple TV then says "Congratulations! You have successfully verified your TV provider" even though I never logged into Spectrum. When I then try to view anything on the ESPN app through the Apple TV, it then says that "Access to this program is not included in your Spectrum TV subscription" even though there is ESPN as part of the login I'm trying to use.

Any thoughts? I thought maybe since I'm using spectrum as my internet service provider, maybe it was just automatically logging me in. So I tried to activate it with the phone (off wifi) and it did the same thing.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Is Spectrum your cable TV provider, or just Internet provider? The reason I ask is you must have a TV subscription of some sort to have access to ESPN streaming channels. For example, if you have a basic cable tv subscription that includes the main ESPN channels like ESPN/ESPN2, you would be able to log in to the ESPN app with your cable tv credentials and stream content that is shown on those (and only those) channels. If you are bumped up to a higher tv package, or paying for a sports package of some sort that includes the rest of the ESPN channels like ESPNU, SEC Network, etc., you would then be able to stream those games on the app as well. You would also have access to digital only channels like ACC Network. But you have to pay ESPN one way or another to view their content. The only way "cord cutters" can do so legally is through live TV streaming services like Sling TV, PS Vue, YouTube TV, DirecTV Now, Hulu TV, Fubo, etc. They are essentially cable/satellite "lite" services that provide a cheaper and less cumbersome option to those who don't want to deal with the cable/satellite companies for their tv viewing needs.

This can be complicated, I have comcast internet, but TV through Hulu, and it would always auto authorize me on my Comcast account, which I didn't have any programming on, therefore no Watch ESPN programming. I don't remember how I made it "forget" that and let me log in fresh, but there's a way.

That shouldn't be happening though if you have Spectrum for both internet and cable. Unless maybe you have them on separate accounts or something? If you're logging into Spectrum, and have ESPN on your cable package, it should work.

No, that's exactly my situation. I have Spectrum for my internet but not my cable, so I think the same thing is happening to me that you experienced. The ESPN app on my Apple TV is "auto authorizing" me through Spectrum but, since I don't have cable through Spectrum on this account (just internet), I can't get any of the ESPN channels through the app on my Apple TV. I'm trying to sign in using a relative's Spectrum account (since they do have loaded cable with all the ESPN channels). If you can remember how you got the Apple TV to "forget" your internet provider, please let me know. Sorry - I should have been more clear about how I do not have Spectrum for my cable, just internet. Thanks.

Can't you just uninstall then re-install the app? Or clear the cache somehow if it's still auto-signing you in? I don't have an Apple TV, so I've never experienced anything like this.

I think it's a setting in the menu to turn off automatically authorizing. I think it's called "single sign on." Turn that off.
