My gosh it really has become the Wild West. This Covid pandemic has put it over the edge for me.

The amount of crap that is posted and taken as truth, depending on the “side” you are on of course, has made it unbearable.

I actually miss the days of when it was just family and friend photos.

I think it’s put the old RC to shame. I’m going to check it once a day- for any quick updates. But I outside of that I need to be done with it (for mental health)

During the last election I unfollowed all of the hyper political “friends” that made it unbearable. Now I do pretty much get friends and family updates without much partisanship.

The ironic part of social media is the intent was to bring people together and create a forum of constructive dialog. What has actually been created is a platform for extreme tribalism tearing at society’s fabric.

Ya....my career/work used to be the reason/excuse for no social media for this kid....now....it’s purposeless, at least for me.

I just hide postings when people post things that bother me. They don't know it and we're still "friends" and no one gets hurt feelings that they've been "Unfriended". I have found friends and school mates and sorority sisters I haven't seen for forty years and we have really enjoyed seeing each other's families and catching up.
I suppose I'm lucky because I don't have any obnoxious friends like y'all are describing, but my nephew's wife is really off the charts with some of her political stuff. She 100% believed in the pandemic conspiracy that was taken down by Facebook and debunked everywhere. The rest of the family are doing eyerolls and I just ignore her.
My biggest peeve is when some strange dude I don't know wants to friend me. NO NO AND NOOOO. SPAM!

Got off social media 3-4 years ago. Noticed an immediate increase in my overall happiness.
Same. I got off Facebook like 6 years ago? Such a great decision. I’ve never considered twitter. Instagram seems like it could be good but I don’t need it.

Plandemic is an abomination and I provided ample evidence to several people that I saw post it, as well as an uncle who sent it to me. They all said I was basically sheeping it. Whatever

I’ve told my family and friends that if they have something important to tell or share with me, they can call or text me. If I have to go to a 3rd party to hear something about you, it’s not that important.

Those friendly stalkers can get annoying....

It’s bad enough with “adults” dealing with social media...watching what the kids (mine included) go though with it is horrifying.

Conversely, people are making it incredibly easy for me to decide who to "unfriend". The amount of nonsense and craziness people are posting, seemingly without any ability or even a remote effort to critically analyze or think, is just absurd. But it's also been really nice to watch them all fall off my wall when they do.

The most recent wave of the unfriending has been for those who have thought it necessary and worthwhile to share the "plandemic" video. :Face with Tears of Joy:Face with Tears of Joy:Face with Tears of Joy

I have never had a FB account but I got on my wife's one time and ended up telling some guy he was an idiot. (he was really an idiot) She got threatened with FB jail and I got banned (by her) from ever using her FB again. When she does show me something on there it makes me glad I don't have it. Even my nieces and nephews will get stupid on there at times.

I don't and have never had a FB account either...but the wife does. Uses it mainly to keep up with old sorority friends and pics of family...even then she encounters the buffoonery

I will say the “People you may know” algorithm is scary.

I miss when it was not even family and friend photos and was suppose to be for just education/study groups.
I don’t think it was ever meant to be for education. I got on pretty early and I don’t ever remember that being a use for it. Or the primary use.
