For at least seven years this lady posed as a dentist who drilled, scraped, cleaned teeth, prescribed medication etc.

The latest patient ended up in the ER with a ulcer.

Once I saw that this occurred in GA I had to look what county. I was going to wager if it was in a rural area she probably couldn’t do much damage to the teeth of the patients... looks like it was in a suburban county though....which would be hit or miss.

Things like this happen in Georgia all the time. But in fairness to the residents of Paulding County, it does have a few small McMansion communities, but it's hardly a suburban county. Yeah, I know, it's considered part of the metro Atlanta area, but with a total population under 160,000 it is, at best, a bedroom community. And yes, I'm picking nits.

I thought it was Cobb, no? If so I’m mistaken...

ULA is probably more common in dentistry than any other practice and is fairly common in Florida.

Sounds like she had two dentists and would sneak in procedures while they were gone. She also had a husband with law enforcement ties covering her trail.

You’re right about the fake dentists, but there’s a ton of fake nurses and optometrists as well. For about a year I handled all of the ULA for the Florida DOH.

The biggest “problem” the year I did it which would have been about 8-10 years ago was gas stations selling illegal contacts (cateyes, alieneyes, etc...). I probably had a hundred cases of just that. As far as fake nurses vs fake optometrists vs fake dentists I don’t know as I never saw stats but my impression was that they were about on par with each other.

"Police in Cobb County, Georgia, this week began an investigation into 47-year-old Krista Szewczyk, just a few days after she was arrested by law enforcement in Paulding County and indicted on a host of felony charges including 40 counts of practicing dentistry without a license, three counts of insurance fraud and one count of forging prescriptions."

As I read that, the practice is in Cobb, which mos def is suburban Atlanta. Since she was arrested in Paulding, I made the assumption she lived there. So, yeah, I was picking nits yesterday for some reason. Regardless, wood not.
