Fines for walking and texting

This thread reminds me of a dust up I had with another poster a long time ago. It was shortly after I came to warchant. Good stuff

California is considering a law that you can't walk and text at all, on a sidewalk, in the mall, crossing the street... Honolulu is a $35 fine if you are texting while crossing the street.

Thanks for clarifying that. I know my post wasn't clear... :D

While crossing the street go into effect in Honolulu today. About damn time...
Off topic, but a buddy of man is always raising cane when he sees solo female joggers/walkers with headphones on and oblivious to their surroundings. Whether driving, walking, running, or whatever, when in public areas pay attention peeps.

I don't watch a lot of videos but I can watch clips of people falling like that for hours.

I just wish cops would start enforcing the texting and driving people.

If the pay was better, I'd spend all day in an unmarked cruiser pulling over texting violations and stroking tickets. It is a completely intentional violation. Unfortunately, compared to more severe crimes, its a low priority. I have also noticed a lack of traffic enforcement in CO compared to other states I have lived in. Which, as a constant speeder, I am not complaining but.....

Heard on NPR this morning that Florida is considering making texting while driving a primary offense.
Apparently Texas did this after a van full of codgers got waxed.

Distracted driving is a big deal. I hate how cops will set up a speed trap in your neighborhood and pull you over for doing 32 in a 25 but will follow are car driving like crap for 5 miles then go right past them...

I am not into more regulations, but it is an epidemic. I would put the percentage of people on their phones while driving at 35-50%, which in someways points to how addictive the smart phones are now. But just about every time you see bad driving (often mimicking a drunk drive), you can be assured they are texting when you go by them.

And it is all ages, not just Millennials and younger. In fact I would say people 35-60 may be the worst offenders. I struggled with it until I just made a habit of throwing the phone in the glove compartment.

It would be better to just let people text and also let cars run over them if they are texting. You know... Darwinism. We no longer have dinosaurs to eat the stupid people.

I’m not sure how Darwinism factors into the innocent people maimed and killed by distracted drivers. They are who I’m concerned about.

Self driving cars can’t get here fast enough. Over four million injuries and forty thousand deaths a year from meatbag operated cars. The bar just isn’t that high to see some improvement...

They are annoying but the last thing in the world this country needs is another violation that cops can generate revenue off of.

We have far too many rules already. It's time to move in the opposite direction.

Plenty of this could be solved on big roads by enforcing the laws regarding slower traffic move over...

.

So how about the punishment is on scene. One gut punch and dot the eye. Then people will know for a week the person they are talking to is a violator. Get caught again, the other eye gets dotted. :)

I would legitimately like public embarrassment to come back as a punishment. In many instances fines don't work, neither does incarceration. Lets try something new. Force them to wear large billboards and walk around school zones with signs for safety purposes. Or downtown areas with lots of pedestrian traffic.

Did you really think I was serious?

If you did, you should reread my post. I was talking about pedestrians texting, not distracted drivers. If pedestrians are texting, and get run over, they aren't innocent.
