Looks good.

I was going to post about this a ton of other theme park news (Universal's closure of Kiddieland for Nintendoland in 2020, Universal closing Dragon Challenge to make way for a Harry Potter extension including a Forbidden Journey dark ride that sounds amazing and Disney closing whatever the car ride in Tomorrowland for a new Tron cycle ride) but I've been busy.

I will say this, as awesome as it looks do not get your hopes up to go there soon. Unlike Universal who announces timetables and sticks to them, Disney's announcements are always complete and utter BS. Half of what they announce never gets built (see the Isreal, Africa, Russia, Turkey and Spain addons to Epcot, the first two Planned Tron rides, the Indiana Jones ride, the dragon ride and fantasy creature addition to Animal Kingdom etc...) and what they do finish takes YEARS longer than planned. Their Fantasyland renovation missed its original completion date by four years and the 7 dwarf mine ride was substantially dumbed down and cheapened out from what was originally advertised and Pandora was originally supposed to be done by the end of 2014 so missed that date by 2.5 years. So I would place a decent sized bet that Universals Nintendoland supposed to be complete in 2020 will be finished before Disney's Starwarsland.

"The company raised ticket prices at some of its theme parks last year in an effort to reduce overcrowding while raising revenue. Attendance at Florida’s Magic Kingdom park fell 0.5%, while attendance at Disneyland in California dropped 1.8%. Attendance at Disneyland Paris plunged 14.2% and at Disneyland Hong Kong attendance was down 10%. Meanwhile, revenue at Disney’s parks and resorts increased 5% year-over-year in 2016 to $17 billion."

This is just amazing to me. They wanted to make more money, and have the park be less crowded, and they did. The Mouse can print money.

I would normally agree with you, but I think they're putting all their chips in on Star Wars being the Potter killer as they're now having to fight that on both coasts with Universal Hollywood opening their version last year. I think that unless you see a massive loss of income from somewhere within the Disney ranks (ESPN I'm looking at you) this will be open at least close to it's projected dates. None of those other lands and attractions you mentioned had near the importance to them that Star Wars does right now.

I have no problem paying a little more to have a less crowded park.

Exactly. I get less crowd, the Mouse gets more money. Aside from the equity issue, the free market system at its finest.

I wonder how high the prices could go until equilibrium?

Disney must have definitely felt some heat from Universal. They announced a bunch of additions Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. All supposed to be complete in time for the 50th Anniversary in 2021. My guess is a phased roll out each year.

Already confirmed:
Toy Story Land announced for 2018
Star Wars Land for 2019

Most intriguing is the new Star Wars Resort (boutique resort). Supposed to be fully immersive and sort of its own standalone experience. I'm sure I would have to second mortgage my house in order to experience this when it comes online.

The price I've seen quoted is $500-1000....per person not per room.

I think they are perfectly aware there are a lot of Star Wars nerds with tons of disposable income for them to exploit....err assist in making their fantasies come true.

They're saying that this will basically be a cruise ship type experience. You're supposed to feel like you're actually boarding the space ship. They even provide you with clothing that matches the theme from one of the articles I read.

I'm not surprised at all. Star Wars attracts lots of nerds and geeks and as I'm sure you're aware from the combination oracle/documentary that is Idiocracracy that nerds and geeks have lots of money compared to the non nerds as they usually 1) have better paying jobs, 2) are single and therefore all disposable income goes to their whims, 3) are gay and have two disposable incomes to their whims, and/or 4) have far less children than non-nerds even if they have them. So there are a TON of nerds and geeks who are going to kill each other for the chance to blow a grand a day or more on this hotel.

If I'd been in charge of Disney I would have done this years ago. Frankly, I don't understand why Universal hasn't done the same with Harry Potter, it seems a no brainer to convert the Hard Rock or another onsite hotel into a wizarding school.

Needs, geeks...? Glad I'm not in high school anymore
