Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher was the second in line for the weekly ACC Teleconference Call. Nothing too earth-shattering came from his 10-minute Q&A with reporters but here are the highlights:
>Fisher reinforced how QB Everett Golson made an imprint with his teammates on and off the field. He also noted how Golson showed consistency throughout camp, leading to his eventual decision to tab the former Notre Dame star FSU's starting quarterback against Texas State on Saturday.
>He also spoke about the receivers expected to contribute. WR Bobo Wilson was the first player Fisher mentioned. Fisher has spoken highly of Wilson' progress at various points in the preseason. Travis Rudolph and Kermit Whitfield were also next. Fisher mentioned others such as sizable target Ermon Lane as players who could figure into FSU's offense.
>With the conversation shifting to Texas State, Fisher discussed what needs to be done to take a win away in Week 1. Texas State runs a spread, but it is a run-heavy spread compared to that of a Georgia Southern or Georgia Tech. Fisher said the Seminoles' defense will need to be physical but also display "eye control" against the Sun Belt foes.
>Depth was also mentioned. Fisher didn't deviate from what's been said in post-practice interviews about depth. Said it was a good thing to have and furthermore, it creates a sense of comfort in case the coaching staff needs to call on a player in case of a specific situation.
>Finally, he was asked about why the SEC continually gets admiration despite the ACC's success against the SEC in bowl games as well as the draft. Fisher said the SEC does a great job promoting itself and has players get drafted. He also said the ACC does the same thing and could not really put a finger on why the SEC is granted a greater spotlight.
