Five feet of new snow of varying consistency

And an abrupt end to a drought. They still need to invest in desal plants out there.

Actually we're still about 30-35 percent behind for the season at this point.

We got about 7 feet along the crest here in the Tahoe area. I had a small avalanche blow powder over my car while driving up Friday night. Snowboarder died at Squaw Valley in a different one, but that's near where I was when I saw mine. The avalanche guns were going off all day.
Snow was insane, even with my fat powder skis it was just too much for me.
Edit - just read that the snowboarder at squaw disappeared Thursday and they found him Friday. No official word on cause of death yet.

I bet the powder is sick! Consider me jealous!

As I said, too much for my old legs. The ungroomed runs and off-piste were covered in 30-50" of fresh snow. We're not talking utah champagne powder. Not "Sierra cement" either but somewhere in between. Just too much for me. I ejected out of my skis at the bottom of one run and spent at least 5 minutes looking for them. I was waist deep after kicking around a bit. Found them about 10 yards uphill - wish I had it on video, must have been quite the flight.
