It’s an NFL charity lol. It encourages protesting. He’s worn it for months. What a monster he must be....
The campaign is having to change names now. How dumb.

Haha I know someone who the managing partner sent out an email that she states make sure to relax and breathe during this stuff as she learned it through yoga. Someone came out and said how insensitive and offensive that is. Where are we going

Finland, norwary, Denmark, or Croatia looking a lot better these days.

Dabo doesn't have to say a thing if he doesn't want to. With the way the media, and everyone else for the matter, puts words in your mouth, I wouldn't say a thing.

Exactly. He can speak privately to his team. You speak to the media, there is too much risk what you say is either misunderstood or you slip one word that gets blown out of proportion. Who the hell would take that chance for what gain?

On the flip side, these coaches make millions on the backs of their largely African American players. A lot of these most important coaches live in areas of this country that have not been the most receptive to equal rights type issues. Those coaches speaking on the issue can do a lot of good.

Hard to get rid of the bad if the good people remain silent.

Oh wow a Clemson thread that we can still comment on. They're gonna feel some real pressure for a while. "Some" coaches will no doubt use this as negative recruiting going forward in some fashion.

Well said, Pops. What some are saying here is largely the reason why the crap existed for so long. Crazy how some will speak up to minimize an issue that makes them uncomfortable, but refuse to speak up about the sanctity of something as important as human life. It's going to be interesting to see how D1 coaches respond to these cultural events, because the option of being silent is quickly becoming unacceptable. Dabo will eventually have to say something and I don't think he has the savvy of Norvell to navigate this situation. Coach speak and fluff will not accomplish what it has accomplish with football in this situation.

"On the backs.." really? I am pretty sure that the player chooses to come and play football. They get a free education and a ton of perks other students don't get, they get a platform that can help them go make way more than a coach and.. the coach can get fired in a second while the player in most cases no matter how bad he is, is not getting "fired" and losing a career.

I am all for the kids getting paid when the school makes money off of their names and such, that is fair. But to say that somehow these kids are treated like some kind of beast of burden is just not true. I played college basketball way back in the day at a much smaller school than FSU and I can tell you that life as a college athlete is pretty sweet. Oh and my coach got fired in my freshman year, but my scholarship was never touched.

Finally, if Dabo is smart he won't say a word. There is a mob of verbal police just waiting to disect every word to find something he said wrong they they can keep bashing... that's the new normal.

I tried to listen to Dabo's "apology" but I only made it about halfway. He talks and talks and doesn't say anything. I just wonder how that sits with his black players. Dabo had a chance to say something meaningful to the people of South Carolina and to be a leader towards change but he chose to just blather on for 15 minutes.

Do you mean the Northern and Mid-West part of our country, cause it seems like the south has coaches out Marching with their players and giving them praise for using their voice.

YESSS, on the back of these young men, literally and figuratively. I don't know when or where you played b-ball but a simple scholarship with room and board may have been more than sufficient at that time. Today, it is NOT, especially those playing football. They break their necks, backs, and any other part of their bodies you can imagine just to make some ungrateful and unsupportive, largely white coaches, SUPER RICH.

The days of simply being "not racist" by those coaches are OVER and better get used to it or that program will quickly be relegated to a bottom feeder. If coaches, like Dabo, Jimbo, Saban, Day, and countless others making 7 plus millions a year on the back of these young, mainly African American, those young men deserve more from those coaches besides "I don't see color" or "I am not racist." Many of those kids and parents are wising up and coaches like Tom Herman will greatly benefit because he spoke unequivocally against racism. For the record, I don't think Norvell damaged himself too bad with those comments he made, but parents, high school players, and coaches are watching and paying very close attention. They don't need "traditional media" to raise hell if and when they wanna...

No I meant the South. There are several big time well paid head coaches in the South. You may not recall but the South does not have a spectacular history when it comes to the rights and treatment of African Americans.

A coach such as Dabo is making millions upon millions based on mostly African American players coming to play for him. When you are the biggest and well known voice in an area and you say you support African Americans then IMO you have a societal and cultural duty to do what you can to help them. Especially when you're Dabo and act like the moral arbitrator for what is right in this world and claim you just love Jesus and just do what Jesus would want every 5 minutes. Me thinks if Jesus was walking the earth currently it's pretty obvious what he would saying about how African Americans are treated in this country. Maybe Dabo should act accordingly if he practices what he preaches.

Just my opinion though.

But it is all a part of his faith...
Didn't the good Lord say on the 6th day there will be football, and on the 7th day too. And while I am at, play football on the 1st day too, and 4th and 5th. That's the extent of Dabo's faith

I agree with you point about Dabo missing an opportunity, but it seems like the south has been a much more tolerant place the last 30 years or so... maybe that is me being a southern NOLE homer, but I am sticking to it....

More tolerant than in 1990? Yes. We're not even close to being where we need to be though.

Coaches get fired and still get paid. So you kept your scholly and your coach still got paid the remainder of his contract.

And yes the players live better than the average student, but it is still hard to justify how much coaches are getting paid in college football. The amount of money generated overall by college football and basketball is a different topic, as it helps open athletic opportunities for all college athletes, and is part of the bigger picture of college athletics.

Sounds like these players should pick up another sport. They damn sure don’t have to play.

Just because players pick a school does not mean that the staff and administration should not support those players. Supporting the notion that black people should be treated fairly by the police and society is not a controversial position to most. It's how it should have been for hundreds of years but unfortunately was not. The moral thing to do is to strongly speak up now and support African Americans to be treated equally in all of society. If you have the power and position to do so but make no to very little effort to do so, the silence speaks very loudly as to how you really feel or how happy you are with the status quo. The issue with Dabo is that he has absolutely no problem speaking about his religion 24/7 when it has zero bearing on what the conversation is about yet when race relations come up he doesn't seem to have much to say. Why is Dabo uncomfortable speaking up on behalf of his players? When he does he constantly talks about God/Jesus and makes vague All Lives Matter type comments. His QB didn't seem to have a problem doing it.

These types of takes are similar to arguing that a company President should not have speak up about sexual harassment in the workplace because if the woman doesn't like it she can choose to work elsewhere.

My post was specific to the statement that a scholarship was not enough anymore. That athletes should get more due to the “sacrifices “ that they make. I’m simply stating that they have a choice, they don’t have to play. You’re beating the social justice drum constantly and loud, and that’s great, I have no issue with that. I have issue with college athletics being turned on it’s head with no end in sight. Now to suggest that the kids, on full scholarship, should focus on football and be grateful for their scholarship is damned near considered a racist statement. Lastly it’s Dabo’s business as to what he speaks about. Suddenly if everyone doesn’t make a statement about black Americans then they are part of the problem. Utter bulkshvt. Kudos to those that do but it’s not a requirement and you making subtle inferences of racism to those that don’t is silly. But keep banging, it obviously makes you feel good. Just leave me out of the lectures.

Dabo might not be racist but he clearly has no interest in trying to help end racism.

Why do we start with the head coach? Do the Asst coaches not care about racism since they are silent? What about every AD in the country? Have we heard from every School President yet? What about every CEO of every company? If we haven’t heard something, then they don’t care about racism, right? I also haven’t heard from these same people on speaking out against child pornography so they must all silently agree with it. Seems like a slippery slope.

National Football Foundation to change name of ‘Football Matters’ initiative

Football Matters” is an initiative undertaken by the National Football Foundation in which parents and coaches “can get information and resources about participating in the game of football.” The NFF further states that the movement “was created to promote sportsmanship, academic achievement, and character-building aspects of the game.”

Sunday evening, however, the NFF announced that the name of the initiative will undergo a change.

“The National Football Foundation fully supports the peaceful protests and their mission to end racism, social injustice, and social inequality,” a statement from the foundation began. “When Football Matters was founded in 2014, it was not the intention to imply that football is more important than a black life or any life.

“Therefore, we will change the name of the campaign. This work is underway and we will have a new name for the 2020-21 season and beyond.”

We aren't talking about child pornography. We're talking about the systemic abuse of colored people in this country. Dabo isn't paid millions to work in an industry that is impacted by child pornography. If he was then yeah I would expect him to be an advocate for children.

I just feel like we've reached the point in society where just saying you love Jesus over and over again isn't enough. Perhaps Dabo should consider whether Jesus Christ, if walking the Earth right now, would take a strong stance supporting African Americans. Me thinks he would.

Do you take issues with mainly white coaches making MILLIONS "on the back of their mainly black players" or is your issue only concerning (black) players wanting a bigger piece of the pie they have created? It's funny how yall LOVE capitalism when it applies to the coaches but HATE it when it comes to the players. The days the coaches, schools, and everyone else make all the money while the players get peanuts, in the form of scholarships are OVER. Players and their families are wising up and I LOVE it.
