LATE SCRIMMAGE REPORT

Jimbo didn't sound thrilled with the scrimmage, but not mad either. Said there were a lot of nice plays but then some "boneheaded" plays ... guys lining up wrong, missing assignments, etc. Said they're right where he thought they'd be.

He said it wasn't a typical scrimmage in the sense of really working on moving the ball and scoring, etc. He said they did a lot of situational things -- throwing to certain receivers on certain routes to see how they'd handle. Putting defensive players in certain situations to see how they'd respond. Get the sense they were really evaluating, more than polishing.

He said the competition was good, and there were some good hits. Said he wouldn't give the edge to the offense or defense.

On Mario Pender, Fisher said they just held him out but he'll be back soon. With Pender out, he said Patrick, Stevenson and Vickers got a lot of the work. He said they had a good day, but when asked specifically about Patrick, he said they want to see him get tougher and be more physical every play.

As for the QBs, he said they were "OK." Good and bad. He wants to see the film to evaluate further. But he said there isn't any separation between the QBs -- at least that he would say to us. He was asked about the QBs several times and just wouldn't divulge much.

He said you could tell some of the young players were nervous being in the stadium and scrimmaging. Several guys were starting in a scrimmage for the first time in their careers, and you could tell it. He said some of the true freshmen made mistakes they hadn't made since the start of camp. But that's not surprising. They'll be better next time.

On the injury front, he said a couple of the young guys who have been held out lately should be back at practice in the next day or two. But he didn't say which ones.

On Wilkerson, he said they're still thinking he's going to get in. But not cleared yet.

Will have more coming up, including video of Fisher.

EARLY SCRIMMAGE REPORT

FSU is holding its first full scrimmage inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

We were inside for the first 20-30 minutes. Here's some info:

Everybody's favorite ACC ref, Ron Cherry, is leading the officiating crew.

On the injury front: RB Mario Pender was sitting out, but not sure what his injury is. Didn't appear serious whatever it is.

Ethan Frith, Cole Minshew, George Campbell, Calvin Brewton, Tarvarus McFadden and Justin Shanks all still out. Deondre Francois was dressed but didn't seem to be doing the warmups with the other QBs.

Marcus Lewis no longer has a brace on his knee. Sh'mar Kilby-Lane still in a blue non-contact jersey. Lorenzo Phillips was in shells. He should be able to put on full pads in a couple days.

Only real lineup change we saw was Chad Mavety was back with the starters at right guard. Wilson Bell was second team right guard.

Got a look at the first kickoff coverage team: It was Marquez White, Nate Andrews, Tyler Hunter, Terrance Smith, Reggie Northrup, Jacob Pugh, Derwin James, Trey Marshall, Jalen Ramsey and Johnathan Vickers. Being a freshman in that group says a lot about Derwin James.

Also, one funny exchange on the sideline before the scrimmage. Former FSU safety Bill Ragans was hanging out and introduced himself to Derwin James. After chatting for a minute, Derwin asked Ragans if he liked to hit? Ragans said, "Yeah man, I liked to hit. That was the only reason they let me on the field. It wasn't for my coverage skills." Funny stuff.

Anyway, we'll have more after the scrimmage. Probably around 3 p.m.
