Norvell is here.

Good workout this morning. Shorter practice, later start. Big special teams emphasis. “I like the progression I’m seeing.” Said it wasn’t a lot of offense and defense. Will have a walk through tonight. Said tomorrow’s practice won’t be a scrimmage ...”but will be very intense. ... We’ve got to push. We’re two weeks away.”

Norvell said team got together before practice to have an open forum ... to continue to talk about feelings. “We are aware ... and every day we’ve got to continue that our actions are part of the solutions. ... It was a good meeting this morning.” Said there would be something later today as well. They want to do actions every day.

he says statement he put out last night we’re his real feelings. “I understand I represent this team and this program but I also represent my family.”said his post wasn’t necessarily for his players, but for himself. He said he told his players “anyone can tweet something” but it’s more than that. Actions matter.

Norvell on letting assistants coach: He says it’s easy to let good coaches coach. Said there’s a standard for the way he expects them to coach, and he’s hands on, but when you have great coaches it’s easy to let them coach.

There are events that are happening that have been happening in our country for hundreds of years. And he says it’s not a simple fix, otherwise it would’ve been fixed by now. He thinks the team building they have done has helped, but he also wants his players to not lose hope, to use their voice, their platform, to try to make a difference.

On buy in: He says it’s daily action, how they go to class, how they come to practice, how they respond to bad plays. He says there’s a sign in their meeting room that says: “Show me.” ... He says they will he sign of success ... is if team buys in, gets better, and reaches potential.

Norvell says he doesn’t spend a lot of time going through his mentions. “I didn’t do it for the response of others.” Said they were his feelings and that’s the reason he posted it, can’t control the feelings of others. “People are going to like what they do or they don’t.” Said it’s not going to change his opinion and he doesn’t necessarily expect To change theirs.

Said tomorrow’s practice will be two hours and be very physical. There will be a lot of intense situations. “To see guys respond ... this will be a finish practice. I want to see guys finish.”

On Purdy: He’s doing a good job. Said he was zooming in early on for QB meetings after injury. “He’s doing well and continuing on his track and rehabilitation.”

Says they adjust to practice schedule as needed. Said meeting took a good amount of time but they adapted. “I’m excited college football is starting tomorrow night.” He says it’s always a joy to see Central Arkansas play ... “and if I get an opportunity I’m definitely going to try to check out the Bears.”

That’s it for Norvell.
Isaiah Bolden is first player up.

On switch to WR: Says it was a phone call with Norvell. “I told him whatever I could do to help the team. ... I didn’t really care about staying at corner, I just cared about helping the team.”

He says times like this show people’s true colors. He says all the coaches stand with the players. That it means a lot. “I want athletes to know they have a voice.” Says he wants athletes to spread peace. No violence. And he mentioned Blackman and Marvin have been leaders in that regard.

Says he was actually excited about switch. “I always wanted the ball in my hands, to show my speed and my vision.” Said getting the phone call was a blessing, and that he can show off his skills. Said right now he’s got to learn playbook, and that Norvell will line him up inside or outside.

He said everybody is supporting him in transition. Coaches, players, GAs. Said it’s not like high school, it’s a huge transition.

he said it’s “a great feeling knowing his teammates got his back.”
And as he wraps up, Bolden says, “Y’all wear a mask, man.”
Darius Washington is up next.

He’s asked what it’s like to be a 6-4 black man walking around in America right now. He says he just tries to control what he can control and be an example.

He says he’s enjoying working with Atkins. They’re absorbing all the coaching he can, and trying to get better.

He says Norvells tweet brings comfort to the team “to know the head man ... is out there fighting for them.”

He says in the offseason he just kept his nose down “and worked and worked and worked.” Said he really tried to get his body prepared for the season.

He said it was tough to be away from his home during quarantine. “But I needed to take care of business first to take care of this university, this team, like I’m supposed to.”

He says Atkins’ message is aggression. To show fight. “Because we want to be better than last year.”

Says he’s been impressed with the freshmen linemen. They’re adapting well. And the vets are just trying to teach as well as they can.

That’s a wrap on Washington.
Kalen Deloach will be up next.

He says he’s doing stud and will LB, but stud is the main position. And in nickel he’s typically covering TEs and backs in coverage.

He says playing time last year just gave him confidence that he can play with some of the best teams.

On defense: “We’ve got linebackers that can play all over. We’ve got a lot of speed at linebacker.” Says all the players can play multiple positions.

He says team is going to stick together and come up with things they can do to help the community. He says they’ll go back to boys and girls clubs, go to elementary schools and show them they can count on them when needed.

He says defense has a lot of different packages ... “we’re going to bring a lot of pressure.”
And that’s it for Deloach.
And that’s a wrap for today.
Tomorrow availability should be around noon.
I hope you guys have a great weekend. Be empathetic, be kind, listen to differing opinions and make friends not enemies. We love you.
