FSU defense keeps Jacksonville State off the scoreboard in the final seconds. And that's a wrap.
Seminoles win 41-24 to snap a four-game losing streak and give Mike Norvell his first career win at Florida State.
They went on a 34-3 run to close the game.
FSU 41, Jacksonville State 24 FINAL
Asante Samuel finishes off a JSU drive with an interception at the 12. And FSU promptly drives 88 yards to finish off Jacksonville State. Travis finishes with six TD drives in seven possessions. He was great. Corbin ran it from a yard in the Wildcat and FSU now leads 41-24. Seminole running backs have combined for 217 rushing yards and four touchdowns. FSU has 529 total yards.
Travis has 39 yards rushing and is 13 of 18 passing for 215 yards.
FSU 41, Jacksonville State 24 2:18 4th Qtr
Travis missed Terry on what could have been an 80-yard TD. Seminoles get called for two holds, one of which took away a converted first down run by Travis on third and 10. And the Seminoles have to punt with 10:13 left. First punt since Travis took over at QB.
FSU 34, Jacksonville State 24 10:13 4th Qtr
FSU defense gives up a first down but then forces a punt. Keyshawn Helton runs away from it and the ball bounces about 15 yards all the way to the FSU 7. That's where Seminoles will take over.
FSU 34, Jacksonville State 24 13:24 4th Qtr
FSU offense finishes off the drive with another Webb TD. This time from six yards out. That was a 10-play, 90-yard drive. Haven't had one of those around here in a while I don't believe. Fitzgerald misses the PAT, though.
FSU 34, Jacksonville State 24 :16 3rd Qtr
Seminoles force a punt. Tru Thompson gets a sack on second down and Samuel has good coverage on a third down go route. FSU offense takes over at its own 10 and is already at the JSU 37. A fourth JSU defensive starter is having to be helped off the field in just this quarter alone. They seem to be getting really gassed. Which is understandable. This is their first game of the year and FSU has run 20 more plays from scrimmage.
FSU 28, Jacksonville State 24 2:39 3rd Qtr
Jordan Travis leads em right down the field again. Toafili does the honors from 13 yards out for the first rushing TD of his career. Nice play design there. As Travis just took the snap and tossed a pitch sideways to Toafili, who turned the corner. The freshman also had a 27-yarder on the drive. Seminoles have now rushed for 122 yards. And thrown for 197 more.
FSU 28, Jacksonville State 24 5:41 3rd Qtr
FSU defense does what it typically does. Gives up first downs. Jacksonville State drives inside the 10, thanks to a ridiculously open screen pass on third down and a pass interference call on Renardo Green. But hey, they forced a field goal. Jacksonville State made it. And now the Gamecocks are back ahead again.
Jacksonville State 24, FSU 21 9:57 3rd Qtr
Well, that didn't take long. Travis hits Terry for a 48-yard strike down the middle on the first play. Webb then finishes off the drive with an impressive, acrobatic 15-yard TD run.
Maybe the two best offensive plays of the year for FSU.
Jacksonville State 21, FSU 21 13:58 3rd Qtr
About to start second half here. Maurice Smith is snapping the ball to Travis on the sidelines, so it might have been just a one-half suspension like we suspected? So perhaps we see him and Lucas in the second half. We'll definitely see Marvin Wilson.
Gamecocks take a knee and we head into halftime. FSU gets the ball to start the second half and also gets Marvin Wilson back. We'll see how that impacts the game.
Jacksonville State 21, FSU 14 HALFTIME
Travis leads another TD drive. Does the honors himself from 1 yard out on a QB sneak. He had the biggest play of the drive when he drove a defender back just enough to pick up a fourth and 1 on a zone read. FSU also drew two pass interference penalties. One covering Terry. One covering McDonald in the end zone.
Jacksonville State 21, FSU 14 :39 2nd Qtr
FSU was feeling good about itself, well relatively anyway, after the TD. Jarrian Jones gets an inexplicable unsportsmanlike penalty on a touchback. Jax State starts at its own 40. Cyrus Fagan then gives up a 41-yard pass after letting the WR run right past him, then turning around and falling down and flailing for the pass when he tried to defend it. Jax State scored a few plays later. And the misery continues.
Jacksonville State 21, FSU 7 4:30 2nd Qtr
Jordan Travis comes in at QB and leads a 73-yard TD drive. The last 41 coming on a TD pass to Keyshawn Helton on 2nd and 1. Travis had a couple of runs in there. Webb had a first-down run.
And the Noles have a little life with 13 at QB. Changes the game because of the way he can run the zone read.
Jacksonville State 14, FSU 7 7:15 2nd Qtr
FSU defense gets a five and out. Forces another punt. Nice tackle by Gainer on that drive and they got the stop on third and 3. Helton with a 10-yard return and FSU will take over at its own 27 yard line.
Jacksonville State 14, FSU 0 10:34 2nd Qtr
They picked up the third down on a great catch by McDonald on a play that was almost another pick-6. But the Seminoles went three and out after that, with Rodemaker missing a wide open Poitier on an easy pass in the middle of the field. It his hands, but it was thrown too wide and too hard. Would have gone for at least 30 yards. But alas. Noles punted. Again.
Jacksonville State 14, FSU 0 13:53 2nd Qtr
That's the end of the first quarter. FSU has a third and 5 coming up to start the second. Seminoles' defense got a much-needed 3 and out after the punt. Kaindoh with a big TFL and then they gang-tackled Cooper on third down at the line of scrimmage.
Jacksonville State 14, FSU 0 15:00 2nd Qtr
Rodemaker and the Seminoles go three and out on the next series. He's sacked by Robert Scott, his own tackle, on second down. A draw on third and long goes nowhere. Mastromanno with a 36-yard line drive punt. Jax State could go up by three scores here as they get the ball at midfield.
Jacksonville State 14, FSU 0 3:00 1st Qtr
Jacksonville State immediately goes down the field and scores. 68 yards in six plays. The last 20 coming on a 20-yard TD run around left end in which no one was there. Griffis got mauled. Dix took a terrible angle. And RB wasn't hit until he was at the pylon.
Jacksonville State 14, FSU 0 5:08 1st Qtr
Noles get a nice return by Helton out to the 40. Rodemaker hits Terry for a third-down conversion. FSU gets down to the Jax State 25 on a first and 5 but Rodemaker takes a 15-yard sack, Fitzgerald ends up missing a 49-yard FG.
Jacksonville State 7, FSU 0 7:50 1st Qtr
FSU defense gets a third-down stop and forces a punt. That's the good news. The bad news is that on third and 3 from its own 11, Rodemaker throws an awful pick 6. And Jacksonville State is up 7-0 with 10:54 left.
Jacksonville State 7, FSU 0 10:54 1st Qtr
FSU won the toss and deferred until the second half. About to get underway at Doak.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3:58 p.m. -- Neither Lucas nor Maurice Smith were announced with the starting offensive line. So, apparently, they're out at least for a while. If they are indeed suspended, it seems odd that they would still be dressed out going through warmups. So maybe the punishment is a drive, a quarter, a half? Who knows? We'll see soon enough.
3:45 p.m. -- Rodemaker is announced as the starting quarterback on the P.A. system. Much to the delight of the hundreds of FSU fans in attendance. We'll see how long he will play, and what other quarterbacks are in the mix, but it will be his first start of his career.
3:38 p.m. -- Rodemaker took the snaps with the 1s in final pregame warmups. Looks like he will be the starter.
3:30 p.m. -- Meiko Dotson is warmup up for the first time this season.
3:27 p.m. -- That rumor about Lucas and Maurice Smith being suspended could be true. The starting OL during warmups is LT Washington, LG Boselli, C Baveon, RG Love-Taylor, RT Scott.
3:25 p.m. -- Kaindoh is warming up in uniform, which he did last week as well. Robert Cooper has his arm in a sling. Tamorrion Terry looks good to go.
3:20 p.m. -- Hamsah is not dressed out again this week.
3:14 p.m. -- Some people have asked about a rumor about Baveon and Maurice Smith. They're both out there warming up. ... Travis Jay is still on crutches. Carlos Becker is also not dressed out.
3:07 p.m. -- James is out there now with the other QBs. It was unusual to not see him out there earlier. But looks like he's there and available.
2:23 p.m. -- According to the pregame flip card, TEs coach Chris Thomsen will be on the field this week. He was in the press box for the opener and then went down to the field for the Miami as acting head coach. Dillingham has been in the box both games and will be again today.
2:18 p.m. -- Special teams guys are out now getting warmed up, along with the running backs. Looks like Webb is going to be fine this week. He's with the other backs. Looks like all of the scholarship backs are available.
2:03 p.m. -- FSU will be wearing traditional garnet-and-gold home uniforms today, with white numbers.
2 p.m. -- Three QBs are warming up early, and it's the three younger QBs -- Rodemaker, Purdy and Travis. Kenny Dillingham was with them. James didn't come out for that early segment.
----
Good afternoon, folks!
Heading to the stadium now, but wanted to get the thread started. Will have pregame updates coming live from Doak around 1:45-2:00. Will be keeping a close eye out on the QBs' activity and looking out for any other new players who might be in or out of the lineup.
Check back around 2 for more.
