Florida State assistant coach Megan Carney has been named to the New York Charging roster for the opening season of the Women’s Lacrosse League, it was announced Thursday.
“I am beyond thrilled to be part of the inaugural season of the Women’s Lacrosse League,” said Carney. “This is an incredible opportunity to elevate the game, inspire the next generation, and compete alongside some of the best players in the world.”
The Women’s Lacrosse League is the premier and sole women’s professional lacrosse league in the country. The New York Charging are one of the original four teams alongside the Boston Guard, Maryland Charm, and California Palms. The league will play a lacrosse sixes format, a hybrid of field and box lacrosse with a faster pace of play and shorter game time.
Carney was recently hired as Florida State’s assistant coach, joining head coach Sara Tisdale and associate head coach Mackenzie Plaskey ahead of the inaugural season in 2026. Carney was a lethal attacker at Syracuse, scoring 213 goals with 90 assists to accumulate 303 points.
The four-time All-American was named to the All-ACC team three times and helped the Orange claim a share of the 2023 ACC regular season title.
“Being part of this league represents a huge step forward for not just women’s professional lacrosse but female athletes as a whole. I can’t wait to hit the field and help pave the way for the future of our sport.” said Carney.
The Charging will compete in the first game of the inaugural WLL Championship Series, facing the Maryland Charm on Feb. 11. All games in the series will be broadcast across the ESPN family of networks.
