Florida State's season opener against Alabama on Sept. 2 second was billed as a battle of two of the best teams for the upcoming season. Turns out, it'll be No. 1 vs. No. 3, according to at least one ranking system released Thursday.
The Seminoles were third in the preseason USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll while the Crimson Tide was first. FSU is coming off a 10-3 season in which it beat Michigan to win the Capital One Orange Bowl. Alabama finished 2016 with a 14-1 mark. It ended the year as the national runner-up after its loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Ohio State was second while Southern California and Clemson were fourth and fifth, respectively. The rest of the Top 10 consisted of Penn State, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan and Wisconsin.
