The No. 9 Florida State men’s tennis team kicked off the season with multiple ACC honors on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Jamie Connel was named the ACC Player of the Week while seniors Youcef Rihane and Alex Bulte were named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week. This marks the first time Florida State has recorded multiple ACC weekly honors in one week since January 17, 2023.
Connel opened his 2025 account with a straight-sets road victory over the No. 77 player in the nation before securing two straight-set wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Georgia Southern. In his four dual matches, Connel has won all seven completed sets in singles play on Courts 1 and 2. Connel also won all three doubles matches, winning 18 of 20 games played with two different partners.
This marks Connel’s first career ACC Player of the Week honor in his three seasons in Tallahassee. Connel is coming off back-to-back 25+ win seasons and was named to the All-ACC Singles Third Team in 2024. He was named co-champion of the 2024 ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship and played at the 2024 Fall NCAA Singles Championship. He was ranked as the No. 22 preseason singles player in the nation according to ITA.
Rihane and Bulte wasted no time in asserting their dominance over Court 1. The No. 6 pairing in the nation defeated the Florida Gulf Coast duo quickly before clinching the doubles point over Alabama State. Rihane and Bulte dominated in their first ranked match of the spring, defeating the No. 54 pairing from Georgia Southern 6-1 to claim their fifth ranked win of the season.
Rihane and Bulte earned their second ACC Doubles Team of the Week honor, the duo’s first since 2022. Rihane has earned the honor in back-to-back seasons, winning the award in three of his four seasons at Florida State.
FSU has claimed an ACC weekly honor in four consecutive seasons and has earned ACC Player of the Week honors in all four seasons.
The Seminoles will host Georgia State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before its top-10 matchup with No. 6 Arizona on Saturday at 1 p.m.
