FSU sports information:

The No. 6 Florida State soccer team outlasted No. 13 Notre Dame 2-1 to advance to the semifinals of the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship on Sunday night. The Seminoles clinched a seventh-straight trip to the ACC Semifinals, no other team has made back-to-back appearances since 2021.

FSU took less than two minutes to gain an advantage as Marianyela Jiménez scored the first goal of the postseason and set the tone with a well-placed shot into the left side of the net. Jiménez's early strike was just her second goal of the campaign and the fastest goal scored. by a Seminole this season.

As the final seconds of the first half drew to a close, Notre Dame fired a shot off a breakaway chance that was seconds away from the equalizing goal.

As both sides began to grow into the game, Addie Todd showed off her aerial skills by making several crucial saves that prevented several Notre Dame chances. She made a high-flying save to deny a goal in the right upper corner before making a fingertip save to keep the Seminoles ahead.

FSU was able to double the lead with a skillfully executed combination play that allowed Sophia Nguyen to unleash an incredible goal into the bottom left corner. Nguyen scored her first goal of the season and her first since September 2022.

Notre Dame managed to pull one back with less than 10 minutes to go but FSU’s defense held firm and parried away the last-minute attempts. Florida State effectively controlled the tempo in the last couple of minutes, and maintained possession to shut down Notre Dame’s attack to secure the win.

Florida State will travel to Cary, N.C., to meet No. 3 Wake Forest in the ACC Semifinals on Thursday night. The game will be available to watch on ACC Network.
