The No. 18 Florida State softball team (36-10, 15-3) stayed hot with its 10th consecutive win as FSU defeated Boston College (25-19, 5-13) 10-3 to complete the series sweep in front of a capacity crowd on Sunday afternoon.
The Noles got the offense going right away as Kaley Mudge led off the game with a single. Jaysoni Beachum then smacked her 12th home run of the season to earn her 50th RBI of the season. Beachumis now tied with Sydney Sherrill for second place in school history for the most home runs by a true freshman. Beachum joins Jessi Warren and Sherrill as the only true freshmen to eclipse the 50 RBI mark in their first season.
FSU added another run in the top of the third as the top of the lineup came through again with Mudge earning a single and Beachum earning a double to put runners on second and third. Isa Torres then hit a ground ball to score Mudge to extend the lead to 3-0.
Boston College responded with three runs of its own to tie the game in the bottom of the third. The Seminoles responded with a two out rally in the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles from Katie Dack and Devyn Flaherty to put runners in scoring position for Mudge. Mudge delivered with a laser down the left field line for her third hit of the afternoon to give the Noles a 5-3 lead.
Boston College threatened in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but the FSU defense held strong to keep the Eagles off the board. The Eagles led off the bottom of the fourth with a hard hit ball that took an awkward bounce off the wall. The batter tried to turn a triple into an inside-the-park home run, but Jahni Kerr started a perfect relay to Flaherty who fired it into Dack who applied the tag to keep the Eagles off the board.
The Eagles threatened again in the bottom of the fifth as they loaded the bases with two outs, but Ashtyn Danley froze the hitter on a changeup to get out of the inning.
FSU carried the momentum into the top of the sixth as they exploded with five runs on four hits to blow the game open. After Hallie Wacaser walked, Katie Dack hit a moonshot over the scoreboard in left field for her third home run of the year to make it 7-3. Torres continued the scoring with a double down the right field line to score Mudge and Annie Potter. Kerr added one more run on a single to give FSU a commanding 10-3 lead.
Danley, Mimi Gooden and Allison Royalty combined to keep the Eagles off the board in the sixth and seven innings to secure the win for FSU. Danley improved to 13-3 on the year with the win.
The Noles will now head to Gainesville on Wednesday night for a top 20 rivalry matchup with the Florida Gators. FSU will go into Wednesday night's showdown as winners of 18 out of its last 19 games.
FSU has won five consecutive games against the Gators, which is tied for the longest win streak by either school in the series. First pitch against the Gators is set for 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
