The Florida State Cross Country teams competed at the NCAA South Regional Championship at Apalachee Regional Park on Friday morning. Using the home course advantage, the Seminoles earned seven USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
Leading the 24th-ranked women’s team Agnes Mctighe, Bieke Schipperen, Elizabeth Barlow and Brooke Mullins finished within the top 25 of the women’s 6k, earning All-Region. Mctighe placed fourth, marking her best finish and first career All-Region honor. Schipperen followed McTighe, placing 5th at 20:03.8. Barlow captured her first All-Region accolade, placing 17th with a time of 20:25.4. Mullins crossed the line in 20th at 20:28.2. Anna Sentner rounded out the scoring five in 60th with a time of 21.08.8.
The women have captured at least one All-Region runner since 1999.
"I can’t express how incredibly proud I am of this group,” said FSU head coach Cody Halsey. “Each of them had a job to do and they executed it perfectly, they ran with tenacity, guts, sheer, will and dedication. I’m beyond grateful for their trust in each other as well as what we do, day in and day out”
FSU placed third with 106 points, finishing behind No.18 Florida and ahead of No.16 Tennessee.
"We couldn’t have done it without all the support. The energy out there today was electric, it was incredible,” added Halsey. “I was so touched at the backing of our athletic department as well as the FSU community. It played such a valuable part in our race.”
Joe Farley led the Seminoles in the men’s 10k, collecting his first career All-Region honor after placing 11th with a time of 30:16.7. Cloud finished 15th (30:27.1), followed Leachman in 17th (30:28.9). Coleman Cronk (30:59.2) in 33rd and Lucas Bouquot was the final FSU scorer in 36th (31:08.1).
"Couldn’t be happier with how the guys executed,” said assistant coach Ian Frazier. “We’ve trained all year to be a team that thrives with the extra challenge of the 10k, and today the men delivered on that. I’m also happy that they’ve reinvented themselves as a squad that moves with purpose and intention through the race, because that’s what it takes to be an elite team in the NCAA. All told, these guys trusted themselves and ran with tremendous heart today.”
The Seminoles placed fourth (112).
