FSU set for top-15 showdown at Duke

The No. 7 Florida State softball (24-6, 3-0) will play its 10th ranked opponent of the season as they head to Durham, N.C., for the first time to face No. 15 Duke (25-5, 7-2). The series will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday with ACC Network having the coverage. Saturday's matchup will begin at 1 p.m., and Sunday's first pitch is set for noon. Saturday and Sunday's game can be seen on ACC Network Extra.

The Seminoles are coming off a dominating performance in their ACC opener against Syracuse this past weekend. The Noles swept the Orange and outscored them 23-1 in their three wins. Kathryn Sandercock led the way for a pitching staff that allowed just one earned run on two hits throughout the entire weekend.

Sandercock pitched her first career no-hitter in a 10-0 win against the Orange where she needed just 37 pitches to record the 15 outs.

On the offensive side, the Noles were led by Hallie Wacaser who improved her team-leading batting average to .413 over the weekend. Wacaser hit .500 in the three games in the Orange including her second career home run in Sunday's matchup.

Welcome to the Gauntlet

  • The Seminoles have one of the toughest schedules in the country this season. The Seminoles will play 20 games against teams ranked in the top 25, 19 of those games being away from Tallahassee. 19 out of the Seminoles’ 23 road or neutral site games are against teams in the top 25.
  • At the Clearwater Invitational, the Seminoles played five ranked teams in four days and went 3-2 in those games. The Seminoles defeated No. 4 Arkansas, No. 15 Arizona and No. 22 Louisiana. The Seminoles fell to No. 2 UCLA and No. 12 Alabama.
  • The Seminoles have already played the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 12, No. 13, No. 18 and No. 23 teams in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings. The Seminoles still have matchups with No. 5 Clemson, No. 10 Florida, No. 14 Virginia Tech and No. 15 Duke.
  • To start the season, the Seminoles played 18 games in 17 days and went 15-3 in those games.
Seminoles' Dominance in the ACC

  • The Seminoles have dominated the ACC over the past decade.
  • The Seminoles have won an ACC Championship (Regular Season/Tournament) in eight out of the past nine seasons.
  • Under Head Coach Lonni Alameda, the Seminoles are 151-35-1 against the Seminoles’ eight ACC opponents this season.
  • The Seminoles have only lost five ACC series since 2012.
  • The Noles are the only ACC team to win a National Title as the Seminoles brought home the title in 2018.
Staying Patient at the Plate

  • The Seminoles have stayed patient at the plate all season.
  • The Seminoles have drawn a NCAA-leading 136 walks this season.
  • Against Syracuse on Mar. 10, the Seminoles drew a season-high 11 walks. The Noles scored 10 runs on just three hits.
  • At one point in the fourth inning against Syracuse, the Noles drew five consecutive walks to score five runs against the Orange.
